Spanish Drivers Be Aware Of Operaciónsalida These Days!

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

A holiday exodus is an inevitable feature of life in various countries around the world. Many ofthose who use Ibex Insurance Services as their Car Insurance Broker In Spain should therefore probably already be familiar with the annual ‘OperaciónSalida’ – or ‘Operation Exit’ – that will commence this year over the weekend of 28th and 29th July.

Nonetheless, given the very real perils associated with a mass summer departure from the cities to the countryside or coast, we felt there’s no such thing as being ‘too prepared’ if you are one of the motorists in Spain intending to take to the roads for a big trip in the coming days, weeks or months.

After all, few people living in any country want to find themselves stuck on a motorway for hours in a hot car, at the height of summer – and according to Spain’s traffic authority the DGT, about 89 million people are expected to hit highways up and down the nation this holiday season.

What do you need to know to prepare?

The DGT has produced a guide to inform drivers in Spain of when it expects traffic to be busiest – as well as least busy – at various times during the next few months.

Unsurprisingly, it was this last weekend – the 28th and 29th – that was tipped to see the greatest amount of traffic heading out of the cities in the direction of the coast. The next big ‘flashpoint’ for drivers in the country is set to be around 15th August, which is a national holiday, followed by the 1st and 2nd September weekend, which is when many return journeys are expected to be made.

As for the times of the day and week when the DGT has said the traffic is likely to be worst, it’s apparently between 16:00 and 22:00 on Fridays, as well as Saturday mornings from 9:00 and 13:00 and Sundays between 19:00 and midnight driving away from the coast, when prospective travellers are most strongly advised against hitting Spanish roads.

Insurance could scarcely be more vital

It’s also important to be aware of the roadside patrols that will be taking place during this year’s OperaciónSalida, the Civil Guard having stated there will be 1,500 patrol cars out on the roads during the busiest times. Roadside checks may be carried out that require you to present your papers, including your car registration, driving licence and insurance documents.

The latter point makes it all the more crucial to ensure you have purchased cover from a trustworthy car insurance broker in Spain, a role that Ibex continues to fulfil for motorists across the Iberian Peninsula. Give our Spain insurance team a call today, on 900 102 527, to find out more.
