Southern Style - How Your Furniture Makes a Statement

by Kevin Smith Author

Your interior design says a lot about you. It sends a statement of who you are, and the message you want to send to your company.

Southern Style

The southern states are a cornucopia of tastes, passions, and styles. While hospitality is the one common theme that unites them all, interior design tastes vary widely from state to state. Furniture stores in Atlanta will sell more bohemian themed items than the stores in Tallahassee who have clientele looking for modern designs.

What Statement Does Your Furniture Make about You?

While the saying goes that you are what you eat, apparently you are how you decorate as well. For example, the shape of your couch can say a lot about your personality and daily life. If you have a sectional you tend to be busy with life and kids, so you want everyone to have their own space. If you have a love seat you love to cuddle and enjoy other people’s company.

Color plays a large role in the statement you are making. Extroverts tend to have darker and bolder color choices, and introverts tend to decorate with softer cream and pastel colors. If you want to add some spice to your romance try adding some purple, pink, or red to your bedroom design.

Patterns make a statement about personality as well. If you want to wow and express your creativity you can choose bolder patterns. If you want to keep it classic and simple, you can choose smaller, understated patterns to accentuate the space.

Good Rules to Follow

Avoid the extremes. You don’t want your furniture to be so classy, expensive, and pristine that others will feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. You should also avoid being too casual with your furniture. A recliner with a cup holder, a stained and lopsided couch send the message that you are comfortable in your environment and you don’t really care if others are. Try to find a happy medium where your furniture is nice, comfortable, and inviting. Send the message that you are used to having people in your home, and you are glad they are there too.

For the layout, it depends on what you want your priorities to be. If you want to entertain and host parties be sure to have enough available seating and plenty of places for guests to place drinks and plates. If your focus is relaxing, highlight a comfy chair, bookshelf for good reading, or a warm fireplace. To get inspired check out a furniture store in Atlanta today.
