Solutions to Fix “QuickBooks will not open” Issue

Methods to Resolve QuickBooks won't open Issue

There are various methods through which you can solve this issue, some of them are listed below:

Method 1: Restart your computer

  • The foremost thing is to restart/reboot your system.
  • After that, try to open QuickBooks file and see if QuickBooks will not open error is rectified.


Method 2: Use QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool

Download and install QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. It resolves the issues with the help of Microsoft.NET Framework, Microsoft MSXML, and Microsoft Visual C++ components used in QB.


Method 3: Rename/Delete QBWUSER.INI file

a) Firstly, press Windows + E together from your keyboard.
b) You have to choose Folder, and search options from Organize tab at the top left the corner.
c) After that, select the View tab.
d) Go to Advanced Settings, then navigate to Hidden Files and Folders.
e) Choose Show hidden files and folders and click Ok.
f) Now, go to My Computer and then C: Drive.
g) Select Documents >> Your user name and go to Local Settings.
h) Choose Application Data, open Intuit and select QuickBooks.
i) Finally, right-click on QBWUSER.INI file and click on Delete/Rename.


Method 4: Access company file from another location

a) The first step is to press Windows + E together from your keyboard.
b) Search the data file with the .qbw extension.
c) Now, go to the network drive where the data file is stored.
d) Next, you have to right-click on the file and select Copy.
e) Create a new folder in C: Drive and save it as QBTEST.
f) Open QBTEST and paste the company file in it.
g) Open QuickBooks by pressing CTRL key simultaneously.
h) Click on Open or Restore an Existing Company and check for C:\QBTEST you created.
i) Lastly, open the file in QBTEST folder.
