Simple Suggestions for Making Healthier Treats

by Rehan S. Branding
While you would not want to start making your raw vegan dessert out of black beans and dates just like hard-core healthful food influencers, you can choose certain additives and methods of preparation that will make your desserts healthier, since everyone wishes to relish what they eat.

If you have a sugar craving but are struggling to eat as healthful as potential, try the seven useful hacks below to maintain your dessert low in junk foods and greater in tasty and nutritious ingredients.

•    Replace your flour
Using whole wheat flour or chickpea flour instead of processed white wheat flour will likely have a minor impact on the flavours of your food but a significant impact on its healthfulness. Using whole wheat flour rises your fibber intake, while using almond flour introduces nutrients to your baking, making it a great choice for those who are gluten vulnerable or allergic. Use a combination of both flours for a much more consistent consistency and the best of all worlds in terms of nutrients.

•    Rather than milk chocolate, use dark chocolate.
There's no need to forego the chocolate chips in your biscuits and cookies; simply choose a darker variation for more antioxidants, fibre, iron, and potassium, among many other nutrients. For optimum health advantages, look for dark chocolate that contains 70% cocoa or more.

•    Create banana ice cream.
If you enjoy frozen treats, skip the milk and refined sugar and make a bowl of ice cream entirely from frozen bananas. Simply freeze bananas overnight and mix in a food processor or blender, adding cocoa powder, vanilla, or fruit to customize the flavours. Then, just like with regular ice cream, top with healthy snacks like dark chocolate, nuts, and fruit. You won't believe how much it feels like real ice cream!

•    Substitute coconut oil for butter.
Consider substituting coconut oil for butter in any recipe that calls for it. Coconut oil, like butter, is solid at room temperature, but it contains less sodium. It also has an acid, a wholesome saturated fat that has been shown to lower cholesterol and reduce body fat.

•    Rather than white sugar, try maple syrup or honey.
Sweeten your treats with more organic ingredients like maple syrup or honey, which consist of minerals and vitamins instead of empty calories. These sugar replacements are also easier to process, which helps to maintain blood sugar levels stable and prevents you from experiencing a drop in energy later on.

•    Use evaporated skim milk, rather than heavy cream
Substitute evaporated skim milk for high-fat heavy cream, that has the same uniformity but much less fat and calories. Use this technique when making baked goods such as cake and scones, and simply substitute the same quantity as the ingredients list calls for and make Guilt Free Choco Cake.

•    Substitute applesauce for oil.
That's correct... Unsweetened applesauce can be used in place of high-fat oils like soybean oil and vegetable oil. Applesauce, like oil, adds moisture and flavour to baked goods, and it works the best in cakes, muffins, and bread. By using applesauce, you reduce your fat and daily intake while increasing your fibre and vitamin C intake. For a lightweight and more nutrient-dense option, use 3/4 cup applesauce for every cup of oil.
