Significance of the Personality of an Elementary School Teacher in the Lives of Young Children
by Akash Sharma Akash SharmaPre-school and elementary
school teachers are as important as lighthouses to lost ships. They are
responsible for channeling the thought processes of a young boy or a girl in
the correct avenue. Therefore, teachers' attitudes towards such young children
are of the essence in their mental growth and development.
Experience Matters
While recruiting teachers
for the primary section in any school, including the top schools of Delhi,
the staff and faculty members place vital to focus on the personalities and
prior experiences of the candidate. Suppose the candidate has had an excellent
track record in the previous elementary school in which they have taught along
with a brilliant recommendation letter. Recruiters are prone to hire them on
the spot.
The Various Do’s and Don'ts
Teachers in charge of
little boys and girls must be very careful in handling them. Thus, they must
possess a B. Ed. Degree which hones the communication skills of a would-be
teacher. They ought to be gentle with them and never indulge in harshness.
Children, in their tender years, must never have to succumb to the raw edges of
callousness by adults.
While it is true that some
children are difficult to deal with, teachers must understand each student at
an individual level. Only then can they comprehend how best to handle each
child. For example, if a child is prone to tears, they must be treated with the
utmost sympathy, compassion, and consideration. If a child is shy and quiet,
they must be encouraged to interact and play with others close to their age.
Because elementary school
students are taught the basics of practically every subject, teachers must be
patient with them and never lose their temper. Some children grasp the
fundamentals rather swiftly, while others take considerable time to understand
concepts. Praising one group while scolding the others is a definite no.
Creativity is a virtue that is sought after and welcomed by teachers.
Since teachers are
responsible for guiding children on the art of reading and writing, they must
communicate well with them by speaking their language. Lessons should be
engaging and captivating enough to keep them interested and wide-eyed. Reaching
out to those who face difficulties, both with regards to education and emotion,
display the empathy of a teacher.
Offering praise, just a
simple 'very good, dear', means a lot to children. Thus, encouragement at every
little aspect is a good way to keep them motivated. A regular polite chat with
parents, updating them on the daily progress of their kids, set the minds of
the guardians at ease, for they depend heavily on teachers.
