Short radius and long radius for pipe elbow

No matter which kind of steel pipe we purchase, seamless steel pipe or welded pipe, we need the help of pipe elbow for conjunction. Today, Threewaysteel pipe would have an introduction for short radius and long radius for pipe elbow.

 

The difference between short radius and long radius is the length and curvature. A short radius elbow will be giving the piping a sharper turn than a long one. For example, the long radius would have 1.5 times curvature on radius than the nominal diameter of the pipe. And long radius elbow would have the benefits of creating lesser pressure drop than short one. And of course, the long one would more expensive than short one. Once we decide which kind of elbow is our choice, we should figure out the work environment of our engineering project.
