Shelf-life of ghee: How long does ghee last

by Pallavi Goswami content writer

Ghee, like all foods, can go wrong. However, if you take good care of it, it would not be quickly rancid. Clarified butter is much better than butter because it has no milk solids, and unlike many other dairy products, it has a longer shelf-life. How long does ghee last? It is an important query for many.

The handling of homemade ghee or store-bought ghee varies depending on the quality of ghee. However, it is crucial to check the shelf-life of ghee before buying. Good-quality organic ghee can stay fresh up to 12 months from the date of manufacturing. So if you are wondering, does ghee go bad or not, here are some tips to increase the ghee shelf-life -

  • You must put it in a jar and store it there. If you keep it in the kitchen, make sure it's stored in a dark cabinet away from direct sunlight.

  • If you have a vast ghee volume that you want to save for later use, it's very easy to preserve. Separate the required amount of ghee into a smaller container for daily use and store the rest of the ghee in a different air-tight jar for later use.

  • It would help if you used a dry and clean spoon to take out ghee every time. This will make sure that your ghee does not go rancid quickly.
