There are home security screen doors that can be easily compromised by a few swift kicks. So you need to learn a bit more before installing one in your backyard or swimming pool.

Just because a product is marketed for home security product does not mean that it will provide full proof security for your house. This is the point to be noted by the National Security Screens Association (NSSA) and the Australian Security Industry Association Limited. So how do you pick a real home security screen door?

First take a look at the materials of the door frame, grille strength, mesh type, number of hinges and the locking device. From a professional security perspective, a properly secured door should be constructed of heat tempered aluminium or galvanised and powder coated steel. They are not only stronger, but also resistant to rust and corrosion. Do not forget to check for reinforced corners and if the corner joints are fully welded. For added security make sure that the door hinges are recessed. This will minimise the gap between the door and its frame. The door should have stainless steel mesh and can be attached to the door frame using stainless steel screws or Pac clamps. The mesh must be either of marine grade 316 mesh or 304 mesh. Apart from this, there are also several other mesh grades available, so check for the best strength rating which is equivalent to the formers.

Security screens in Coolum have a solid diamond grille structure, which is an example of a proper legitimate and secured door. Similarly, your grille should be 7 millimetres thick and can be joined at all joints by welding. You can say a grille is well secured only if it fits firmly on the door frame. You can understand its strength if you check that the grille has been riveted or welded. If it is welded, then it is the strongest.

The final concern is the door lock. Look for locks which have five pin cylinder or equivalent and can be operated by a key. To add to the overall strength, it is recommended that you set a three point lock. Three point lock makes itself extremely difficult to be ripped from the door hinges. And another useful feature of this lock is, it spreads the load of the force throughout the door which is applied by any person.

Security screen doors are an important requirement of your overall home security system, and also the basic frontline defenses against all intruders.
