Secondary Courses Offered By NIOS

by Devendra Kumar Article
There are many students in the secondary school that prefer continuing their secondary courses in Abu Dhabi in a private mode. This is made easier by National Institute of Open Studies or NIOS. It is a board that allows a student to pursue the secondary examinations if he/she is unable to sit for the secondary exams in school due to any reason. The certificate provided by the NIOS Board is equivalent to the certificates & mark sheet provided by a school affiliated to an educational board like CBSE or ICSE. What subjects and class timings can be chosen by a student? All details are listed in this write-up.

The Eligibility Criterion
For a student that wants to enroll on NIOS for continuing the secondary courses in Abu Dhabi, her/his minimum qualification must include the clearance of the seventh standard in school. Moreover, she/he should be fourteen years and above in age.

The Pattern of Studies
There’s a pre-designed pattern for continuing the studies smoothly. Following it eliminates the hassle of selecting the right subjects. The pattern has a certain scheme defined below.
  • It is mandatory for a student to select five subjects with one language.
  • Additional subjects need to be selected as they comprise the practical tests.
  • Every student has a liberty of choosing the subjects of his/her choice.

The Schedule of Classes
Usually, the classes are conducted five days a week for all subjects. It recreates the complete environment of a school. All students are expected to report on time and carry all necessary books & notebooks. Apart from this, the NIOS authorities also provide a different schedule for conducting classes for students considering their convenience. It includes:
  • Weekend classes (timings can be shifted & students are notified for the same).
  • Crash course (a two-month-duration where classes are organized in the evening).

Examination
The exams for secondary courses in Abu Dhabi are conducted twice a year i.e. in April & October. This helps a student to reappear for the exam if he/she fails to appear for the exam due to any reason. Prior to the examination, the extra classes are organized for students. Teachers also conduct tests at regular intervals.

For continuing the further schooling, the certificate issued by the NIOS is equivalent to the one issued by the boards like CBSE & ICSE in India. In the countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the certificates issued by NIOS are valid and accepted by schools and educational institutions.
