Market watchers are bracing themselves for a major showdown
between Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc. where both rivals are going to
face off at an international trade show in September. The goal? To secure a
bigger share of the market for smartphones with wider screens.
It is difficult to say exactly what will constitute Samsung’s
demo, but one can assume that it would include its next ‘phablet’, possibly the
Galaxy Note 5. The trade show we’re talking about here is the Internationale
Funkausstellung (IFA). Industry pundits expect Samsung to release the new
phablet with a curved display (much like in the Galaxy S6 Edge). The unique
design of the S6 Edge generated a lot of buzz among consumers and the media,
creating a demand for the device with an unusual screen design.
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office,
earlier this month Samsung won the trademark for “S6 EDGE”. Reports also
suggest that the Galaxy Note 5 would come with a 5.9-inch display, unlike the
5.7-inch display on the S6 Edge. There are, however, some opposing reports
circulating in the market that suggest that Samsung may not go with a bigger
form factor on the Galaxy Note 5. Samsung is expected to roll out more smartphones,
as the company seems to be suffering from dismal sales from its handset
business.
The showdown between Apple and Samsung arises from the fact
that Apple is expected to showcase the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus after the
IFA. The models are supposed to have the same outlook as the current iPhone 6
line, but with better, improved features.
The timing of the showcases is the main point of
consideration. Samsung intends to reveal its new device, before Apple’s
anticipated device. This would give it the much-needed advantage. So which
device would you choose? Whichever you do, you can always transfer
content using content transfer apps like SmartIOApp. So which device, according to
you will have the edge (pun intended)?
