Salgaokar builds a compact squad for upcoming season
Salgaokar one of the most famous football clubs from Goa has already started to build a compact squad for the next season. The last I league performance did not go so well for the club and they just scraped out from the relegation spot.
Although Salgaokar could not impress so much with a good performance last season the team aims to build a squad which can create a good impact in the forthcoming tournaments. Recently, Salgaokar has signed up Scottish coach Malcolm Thompson who has replaced one of the Indian greats Derek Perreira.
Daryl Duffy, the Scottish striker has also been retained for the upcoming season. The performance of Duffy was quite impressive last season as he scored some important goals and also played a role in a few major assists. He is quite dangerous in front of the penalty box and possesses the quality to convert minimum of opportunities.
Apart from Duffy, a majority of Indian players have also been signed with some heavyweight names in the roster. Augustin Fernandes one of the most promising defenders who plays under the fray of Stephen Constantine has also been retained in the side. Augustin stood out as one of the talents of last season and played a crucial role in helping the side to avoid relegation. Rocus Lamare, the former India veteran also has been retained in the squad. Rocus has represented Salgaokar 12 times in a row which is quite a record in itself.
Nicola Colacou, another important player who has already signed for FC Goa in the I league has also been retained by the club. Nicola is also one of the promising right backs in the country and has impressed the coach with his skills.
The coach Malcolm Thompson is quite excited to take over with a new team at his disposal. He is looking forward to the beginning of the new season and wants the players to be prepared well ahead of it. Already Daryl Duffy, the leading striker from the club has expressed his wish to work closely with the coach Malcolm Thompson and bring out the best results in the next season. Duffy knows the coaching prowess of Malcolm from his youth days and his involvement urged him to come to Salgaokar for the next season.
