Safety During COVID-19

by Puton The Brakes Puton The Brakes

Since safety is always our number one priority, we are meticulously abiding by CDC and local/state guidelines at all of our schools.  To protect teens, their parents and the B.R.A.K.E.S. team, we are:

1. Routinely cleaning and disinfecting touchpoints in classrooms and the vehicles we’re utilizing.

2. Social distancing.

3. Running temperature checks.

4. Reducing class sizes.

5. Making masks, hand sanitizer and soap and water readily available.

“Staying Trippy” in Charleston

We’d like to extend our deepest thanks to Charleston, S.C.-area Allstate agents, who supported our visit to the North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center.  The weekend was in tribute to the memory of Tripp Rabon, son of fellow agent Sandra Rabon, who lost his life in a car crash in 2015.

“Given the overwhelming number of teen deaths resulting from car crashes, it was imperative that we bring the B.R.AK.E.S. program to Charleston,” Sandra explained. “Doug and his team are having a profound impact on road safety, which perfectly aligns with our mission at Allstate.”

This very special visit was highlighted by visits from Tripp’s sisters, Emily and Lydia, who joined local Allstate agents in cheering on teens and parents.

Raising Money and Burnin’ Rubber

Burning some rubber for a great cause, our own Jennifer Ritchie and her husband Todd took part in in the Speedway Children’s Charities-sponsored “Summer Laps For Charity” event at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 2.4-mile Roval road course.

Each year, the hugely popular event generates funds for this incredible, far-reaching nonprofit which grants funding to hundreds of Charlotte-area charitable organizations.

Shout out to our Sponsors!

Even in the face of a global pandemic, our lifesaving proactive teen defensive driving program continues to train teens and their parents, thanks to the incredibly generous support of our sponsors. They play a critical role in helping us extend our message, making the nation’s roadways safer and saving lives.

So, we’d like to take this opportunity to give a “shout out” to these wonderful, loyal companies who are the heart and soul of our cause.

Music To Our Ears…and Eyes

We love receiving heartwarming letters from parents, expressing their appreciation for our program and its impact on the lives of their teens.  Sometimes, the impact of these behind-the-wheel teachings is immediate.

Here’s one example from a relieved parent in South Carolina:

“Your program is awesome!!!   I just wanted to let you know my son went through this program last year and got his license in July.  He was delivering pizza when he hydroplaned.  He came home and told me what had happened and assured me that he knew what to do, thanks to what he’d learned at B.R.A.K.E.S. I am so thankful he was OK.  Everyone should take this course.”

We’d Love Your Help!

With the world changing every day due to COVID-19, the ability to secure funding, fundraise, request donations, and secure grants have decline precipitously.  This situation has been exacerbated by the cancellation of two of our most important annual events—our annual Gala and charity golf tournament.

Given these extenuating circumstances, please consider making a charitable donation to B.R.A.K.E.S   For more information, please visit: https://putonthebrakes.org/donations
