The Russian River California is one of the most diverse and beautiful wine regions.  It is reputed by the vinophiles that as a group the Russian river wineries are among some of the finest in northern California, located nearby the Napa valley. The Russian river valley was approved as an American viticulture area in 1983. The Russian River Valley is a very beautiful land in Sonoma wine country. The Russian River spotted with rafts and kayaks and very well appointed by majestic redwoods which is the main water supply for this wonderful American viticulture area. Grape growers are content with the range of soil types: sandy loam, silt-clay-sediment, clay and volcanic has been created by the river. All are the perfect growing soils for a large variety of grapes but one will love the vines of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit. The fog belt created by the coastal access controls the morning time. It burns off and it becomes too hot in the afternoon, and so the perfect venue for these sometimes temperamental grapes. The evenings are also cool here so that the grapes can recover and relax. Consistently from spring through harvest time it is probably what makes this appellation terroir a special place for the craft wine.

Like it’s other sisters AVA’s, Alexander Valley Dry, and, Creek Valley it was also planted in the nineteenth century only to be knocked back by prohibition. Holy wine and a bit of bootlegging were the main varieties and many wineries went out of business. It was all replanted in the year 1970 and after that became the home to some big boys like Kendall Jackson and Gallo. Since then it has grown almost over 130 wineries and 30 different varietals of wine grapes has been planted over here. The Bohemian Club, which is a big secret of the rich and the powerful, is nestled here only amongst the trees and along the river. You cannot get inside unless you know the secret password and also have a five star security clearance. There is plenty to see as well as taste if you don’t.

Russian River Valley extends from Santa Rosa all along Forestville and just adjacent to the Healdsburg. It is the closest to San Francisco other than Sonoma Valleys and Napa.  It is one of the great places to do a wine tour because it has lots of great elements like coastal accents, unmatched beauty, Great wine and a relaxed feeling also.
