Russia Developing its Own Hyperloop and Other Future Tech
It’s #FunFriday! And we’re back with the latest science and
technology news for the day. Enjoy today’s digest!
Russia Developing its
Own Hyperloop
After Elon Musk’s Hyperloop already has over 1000 companies
fighting for the $150,000 winning prize, Russia is looking to develop a
Hyperloop system of its own. Russian Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov has
stated that Russia, too, is building a Hyperloop system of its own.
At a recent press briefing in Sochi, Sokolov admitted having
been familiar with the Hyperloop concept about 2 years ago at the St. Petersburg
University of Transport and Communications. He claims that the technology has
already been implemented in principle.
“If we assume the steps [to such technologies] In principle,
Yes [we have achieved it]. In our transport strategy reflects the use of new
means of transport, which can be attributed to this project. We are not just
looking for such projects, but we understand that they are the future
Universal Treatment
for Cancer Picks Up Pace with Successful Human Trails
From researchers trying to cure
brain cancer using a new type of treatment to bringing back the dead with
science, the world seems to be united in an effort to cure cancer once and for
all. Now, a new type of universal cancer treatment by researchers at the
Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germany has been successfully tested
on humans, paving the way for soon-to-be-discovered cure for cancer.
We recently reported about a similar
type of treatment employing the use of borrowed T-cells to combat cancer. However,
this treatment (called Immunotherapy) uses the body’s own immune system to
shoot RNA at the specific antigen sites at the cancer site, forcing them to
recognize them as a threat.
“[Such kind of] vaccines are fast and inexpensive to
produce, and virtually any tumor antigen can be encoded by RNA. Thus, the
nanoparticulate RNA immunotherapy approach introduced here may be regarded as a
universally applicable novel vaccine class for cancer immunotherapy,” the researchers
said.
Schizophrenic Patient
Brain Might Heal Itself
A new study has revealed that brains of schizophrenic
patients have the ability to limit and even reverse the heavy damage done in
the initial stages of schizophrenia.
"Our results highlight that despite the severity of
tissue damage, the brain of a patient with schizophrenia is constantly
attempting to reorganize itself, possibly to rescue itself or limit the
damage," said Dr. Lena Palaniyappan, Medical Director at the Prevention
& Early Intervention Program for Psychoses at the London Health Sciences
Centre.
