Robust Fire Safety Risk Assessment Service for Pubs, Clubs, Restaurants, Salons, And Gyms

by Heather Hall Heather Hall has led the Coordinating team at LFRA

Manchester Pubs, Clubs, Restaurants, Hairdressers, Shops and Gyms are now open! Whilst all businesses have a responsibility to ensure their clients are Covid safe they also have a duty to ensure that the Fire Safety Risk Assessment for their premise is current too.

The identified Responsible Person for the premise must record any significant changes to the premise and where necessary actioned upon within an appropriate timescale. It is a strong recommendation that the Fire Safety Risk Assessment is regularly reviewed.

Things for the Responsible Person to consider when reviewing the premise Fire Safety Risk Assessment:

  • Sources of Ignition – remove and reduce the hazards that may cause a Fire.
  • Persons at Risk – remove and reduce the risks to people from Fire.
  • Changes in risk – the level of risk may have increased due to the Covid situation, you may have increased storage, additional stock and an increase in waste.
  • Inspecting, Testing and Maintaining Fire Safety Equipment.
  • Fire Doors - some building users are wedging open self-closing fire doors as a Covid-19 control measure (intended to reduce the need to touch locks and door handles). Self-closing fire doors are fitted within your premises to prevent the spread of smoke and fire and to protect and maintain escape routes. It is essential that these doors are kept shut at all times.
  • Record, Plan, Inform, Instruct and Fire Safety Training.
  • Fire Safety Emergency Plan – Are there still enough staff to ensure a safe Fire Safety Evacuation.

To comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 all Manchester Pubs, Bars, Restaurants, Hairdressers and Gyms must have a ‘suitable and sufficient’ Fire Safety Risk Assessment. The following ‘parts’ must be included –

Fire Safety Inspection and Audit

  1. Fire Risk Assessment
  2. Fire Safety Management Action Plan – Significant Findings
  3. Fire Safety Policy
  4. Fire Safety Emergency Plan

A ‘suitable and sufficient’ Fire Safety Risk Assessment will identify any Fire Safety deficiencies when an in-depth Fire Safety Inspection and Audit has been carried out.

If you require assistance with your premise Fire Safety Risk Assessment, there are many Fire Safety Protection Services in Manchester for you to choose from. However it is essential that you appoint a Fire Safety Company based on quality rather than cost as the cheapest may not be deemed ‘suitable and sufficient’.

London Fire Risk Assessments – Manchester division is an independent Fire Safety Consultancy and have been providing Fire Safety Protection Services in London for over 14 years. Due to client demand they have recently expanded their Fire Safety Services to Manchester. Their service includes ‘suitable and sufficient’ Fire Safety Risk Assessments. All their Fire Risk Assessor are members of the Institution of Fire Engineers and the Fire Protection Association. They are all retired Fire Brigade Fire Safety Officers, so they have been on both sides – putting Fires out and preventing them.
