Road Works and Car Accidents

by Kristen White Blogger
In most vehicle accidents the fault lies with one of the drivers involved in the accident; or it could spill over to the specific behavior or actions of a passenger or pedestrian. However, in other instances road issues may be the sole cause of an accident or collision. This article will discuss issues relating to car accidents that are caused by road hazards.

Road hazards may be as a result of issues to do with disintegrating roads and bridges, broken cement blocks, traffic cones, debris from broken pieces of road or road construction. Across the United States there are many roads that may cause accidents periodically.

It is important to note that road construction and repair require funding, as a result, many road repairs take time before they are funded and completed. Funding ensures bridges are solid and passible, roads are smooth and drivable and debris and disintegrating parts of the streets are cleared. Fair to poor road conditions may lead to accidents with multiple vehicles causing injuries and death. Without funding to ensure safety on the road, roads may be the hazard that causes accidents.

Experts say that roads usually have a life expectancy [https:// www.reliablecontracting.com%2Fconcrete-vs-asphalt-perpetual-pavement-and-the-lifespan-of-asphalt%2F&usg=AOvVaw3a4cuQYYywoIFc64cCMe2B] of about 20 years, once this time period exceeds damage begins to become a problem. As time passes regular maintenance becomes ineffective. When age and damage is extensive a total or complete overhaul is required in order to return the road network to working order.

Many dangers exist when road maintenance is not carried out. For example, bridges that are unsound may pose a danger to groups of people. When the bridge is structurally deficient it may eventually fall apart completely or may require repairs entirely in order to remove the risk of danger to vehicles that pass over them.

Freeways and highways remain a potential danger for all drivers due to driver behavior or other hazards that may be present on the road. However, when the road itself is in disrepair such a problem increases the frequency and scale of hazards. It is not uncommon to find some of the following:
Potholes
Uneven lanes
Narrow shoulders
Crumbling edges
Such disrepair may cause an individual to lose control of their vehicle and results in an accident that causes death or serious injury.

While disrepair causes its own problems, another danger exists when repairs begin. Road construction and reparations tend to lead some drivers to accidents. Drivers may end up in accidents by trying to avoid construction, swerving away from people in the road and maneuvering in areas that have been incorrectly fixed. The worse the damage to the road, the more is needed in order to resolve the issue. This may lead to further accidents as more of the road is taken to resolve the situation.

Materials that are used for construction and repair may be a hazard on their own, especially when they cause a driver to lose vision of part of the road. In other instances, warning signs may be placed incorrectly and closed lanes slow drivers down and may lead to accidents.
