Rex Ryan blames flags for loss
The Buffalo Bills were penalized 15 times on Sunday Rueben RandleJerseyin their 23-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a defeat that did a great deal of damage to their playoff hopes. Buffalo fell to 6-7, two games behind the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, the teams currently battling for the two AFC wild-card spots. The undisciplined play of the Bills has been a frequent theme this season, the first under head coach Rex Ryan. At home against the New England Patriots in Week 2, a rival Ryan is almost obsessed with beating, Buffalo was flagged 14 times for 140 yards, including three unnecessary roughness calls (one was declined), and a taunting infraction. A couple of weeks later, in a loss to the New York Giants that saw the Bills flagged 17 times, http://www.nflgiantsofficial.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_SHANE_VEREEN_JERSEY.htmlRyan said his team could play smarter, but he liked the fight his players showed. The next day, he said issues had to be resolved, and the Bills had to clean up things like unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. On Monday, after watching the film of the loss to Philadelphia, Ryan said the flags the Bills drew were fatal. "Obviously as we all know,http://www.nflgiantsofficial.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_STEVE_WEATHERFORD_JERSEY.htmlyesterday the penalties were the difference in the game. It destroyed our offense, especially those holding calls and penalties. You'd make a great play, get a first down, turn back, penalty. And it just happened time and time again and we couldn't overcome it," he said. An example: down 14-7 in the second quarter, the Bills were rolling, with gains of 3, 18, 7, 24 and 13 yards, giving them first down at the Eagles' 15. Offensive lineman Jordan Mills was flagged for a false start, pushing them back to the 20, and the drive stalled out. Buffalo had to settle for a 38-yard field goal from Dan Carpenter instead of the potential game-tying touchdown. A similar situation played out in the third quarter, when a four-yard gain by LeSean McCoy on James StarksWomens Jerseysecond-and-2 was wiped away after an illegal motion penalty on Marcus Thigpen. The flag again proved to be a drive-killer, and led to another Carpenter field goal. And the mistakes weren't just confined to offense. "On defense we had four offside penalties that...I thought it was because the [Eagles] center was flinching, but that wasn't the case," Ryan said. "So that was poor judgement on our part. We're trying to jump the count, (but) we need to just get off the ball." Ryan said he had a private conversation withhttp://www.packersshopnfl.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_JARED_ABBREDERIS_JERSEY.htmlreferee Ed Hochuli, but believes the majority of the calls were correct. The Bills have now racked up 147 penalties in 13 games, and are on pace to shatter the single season record, currently held by the 2011 Oakland Raiders. That year, the Raiders were flagged 163 times. Close behind the Bills in the undisciplined play department this season are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have been penalized 143 times.
