Responsive Websites with WordPress

by Warren Contreras Old Retired Guy
The buzz about Mobile Devices is all true and anyone interested in the Internet or eBusiness would be well advised to start paying attention if they want to survive the revolution. More people access the Internet through a Mobile Device than on a computer today!

That's why I was very pleased when I discovered a Responsive Theme for WordPress that seems to have found the compromise between ease of use and speed, both being critical to the success of your final website. I set up one for myself at WII-FM.com

Notice that when you grab the right edge of your browser and adjust the screen width, the website adjusts with it and all the content continues to be displayed. It can accommodate any visitor from someone on a high resolution screen attached to their desktop, to the smallest screen on a smartphone and still communicate the complete message.

If you look at the very bottom of the site, there is a link to the free theme I used.  There are a couple of tricky details in the dashboard to get used to, but it's still WordPress and carries all the benefits of most other themes.

The content is contained in three areas, the normal Posts as usual, the Appearance > Theme Options where you can edit the Home Page Title, SubTitle and Content, and widgets (of which I only used the three Home Page Widgets).

If you edit the widgets you will see them listed, then you can drag any Widget Object onto the one you want to use and edit the Title and Content there.

Actually it's harder to explain than it is to do.

I probably wouldn't recommend it for a beginner to WordPress (unless they have some help), but if you are comfortable it would be an excellent way to get a simple website online and maintain it easily.

Send me your link if you do it!

Great article, and nice splash page too, Warren.

Only one thing: May I suggest you make your WII-FM link clickable ?
