Very Good morning to one and all present here. I would like to thank Griha Council for giving opportunity to Billabong High international school, Noida to present our efforts towards environmental sustainability.
We, at Billabong High International School in Noida, aim at education that produces well grounded, resilient and successful human beings as education is an effective tool that stimulates passion and brilliance in every child.
We, at Billabong, truly believe in preserving nature and work towards saving our environment. We also aim to adopt sustainable ways to preserve nature.
Our school participated in Griha Exemplary Performance Award under Existing Day Schools category in various sub-categories i.e. waste management, energy management, water management, well being and social aspects.
Under the category of waste management our learners are actively involved in multiple activities.
To list a few:
Our Learners are involved in collecting hard plastic and then up cycling the collected plastic waste.
Our school has collaborated with the ICPA (Indian Pollution Control Association) under the S.O.R.T project. As a part of this project, our school has got equipped with Aerobins for proper management of the biodegradable waste generated in the school. We are the first schools in Delhi NCR region to get equipped with the Aerobin waste management facility.
The main idea is to motivate the learners to segregate waste and decrease the pressure on landfills. We release the food waste into the aerobins on a daily basis and regularly get it monitored by the learners. The compost generated is collected and utilized for gardening purposes in the school premises. The school celebrates Van Mahotsav annually by organizing a tree plantation drive. This time, we planted saplings in the school along with making of around 300 seed balls for successful tree plantation using leachate.
We have also circulated our first batch of organic manure obtained along with the leach ate to the parents in the annual science exhibition at our school.
Now, I would like to throw some light on the activities under the category of energy management.
