Report: Google Map Would Be Replaced By Apple’s Own Map in iOS 6
It is said that Apple has already invented its own map app, and it would be updated in the the iOS 6 to replace Google map. The new map would be named “Maps” since it would be built in the system.
Apple has used Google map service since the year of 2007. But reliable resource from 9to5Mac and AllThingsD say that Apple has developed its own map service with 3D mode, and it would ditch Google map to use its own.
Before ios 5 was released, rumors about Apple’s own maps had already come out, because Apple has acquired several mapping technologies including PlaceBase, Poly9 and C3 Technologies, who have helped Apple build a complete map database. However, as everyone knows, Apple and Google extended their cooperative agreement for ios 5.
Now it seems have no need for Apple to extend the agreement any more. Apple designed a brand new icon with new coloring scheme for the new maps service on the basis of the existing icon. Besides, Apple probably would develop new built-in strategy to replace google street view service.
Analysts think there’s no doubt Apple would make its own map service sooner or later. Because Apple and Google has been fighting really intensely for market shares in the smartphone industry, it is reasonable to have another map service of its own. Besides, maps service is one of the hottest apps in smartphone apps, an Apple map app would also stimulate the sales for iphone and ipad, and enrich the ipad accessories market with more cool ipad accessories and ipad parts. Anyway, analysts presume that ios 6 would probably be released on the WWDC in June this year.
