Recovering For Aircraft Accident Injuries

by Kristen White Blogger
Aircraft Accidents
Whether it be the terrain, the weather, or other factors, Alaska has an aircraft crash epidemic.   But as technology improves and rules strengthen, there are less reasons that airline passengers should be at risk.
When people are injured in Alaska Aircraft Accidents, there could be many causes and, as such, many defendants.

Was the cause of the crash pilot error?  Was it due to a defect with the aircraft itself?  Was there a maintenance issue?  Did the airport fail to remediate a condition that led to the crash?  Was there a software problem that rendered the pilot without control of the plane?

As you can see, there are many possible defendants, such as the pilot, the airline, the owner of the aircraft, the maintenance company, the airport owner, or the manufacturer of any component part.  The negative is that there are many things that can cause an aircraft to malfunction.  The positive is that there are many pockets from which you may recover for your losses.

Experienced aircraft attorneys know how to prosecute a claim so that you achieve the greatest possible recovery.

Finding the Right Attorneys
The best attorneys have many of the following attributes, some obvious and some not.

  1. Knowledge of the law—In light of the fact that the law consistently evolves, Alaska attorneys are required to take continuing legal education classes in order be sure they are aware of changes in laws that affect their practice areas.  When Looking For Anchorage Attorneys, it is a good idea to make sure your attorney is in compliance.
  2. Knowledge of relevant medical information—your lawyer must at least know the basics of the medicine related to your injuries.  Think about it—if your attorney has no understanding, how will he or she get a judge or jury to understand so they know what to award you?
  3. Experience—A recent graduate from a top-tier law school may be smart, but he or she will not be nearly as effective as a veteran who has tried dozens of cases “in the trenches.”
  4. Honesty—Run from an attorney that promises millions of dollars after a 10-minute intake meeting.  Stick with honest attorneys that explain the positive and negative aspects of your case and that a complete analysis is impossible until further information is obtained.
  5. Commitment to Your Case—Your lawyer must care and put hard work and effort into putting together a good strategy.
  6. Respect in the Field—If your case goes to trial, your attorney will need credibility, or the judges, juries, other attorneys, court staff, medical professionals, insurance representatives, and others involved will not decide in your favor.
  7. Trial and Negotiation Skills—Although somewhat redundant to the above, the skilled attorney known for succeeding at trial and being a top-notch negotiator is the one who will likely achieve the best result.

Of the more than 2,300 attorneys to choose from in Alaska, some will be good at cases involving aircraft accidents and others will not.  When looking for attorneys, it can be a detailed process, but you should take time to make the best selection possible in order to obtain the award you may deserve.
