One of the tubes of the pump will be connected to your heart while the other one is connected to the main blood vessel i.e. Aorta. Another tube is passed through your skin to connect the pump to the controller and batteries.
The whole process of implantation i.e. VAD Surgery usually takes 4-6 hours in completion. The VAD implantation procedure is performed under general anesthesia and you will be put on a ventilator and heart-lung machine. On the completion of implantation when a heart-lung machine is switched off, VAD will start pumping blood like a normal heart.
