Read These Tips to Tell Genuine Auto Parts From Fake

by Shaun Carey GmOutletParts

The illegal market for fake OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) car parts is thriving. It is getting tougher to distinguish authentic from counterfeit car parts. When you get tricked into buying fake parts by unscrupulous salespeople, it is not only an embarrassment; it can also turn out to be dangerous.

In countries like Saudi Arabia and India, thousands of drivers lose their lives in a year due to fake parts in vehicles.

It is not always easy to tell a safe OEM from a life-endangering counterfeit. We provide three signs to look for when buying replacement parts for your vehicle.

1 - Fake OEM parts don't look like the originals

Parts like brake pads, spark plugs, oil filters, etc., are the most frequently counterfeited parts of a car. Hold both the items side-by-side and compare them with the genuine part. Look for differences in the material in the following areas:

Misspellings in the packaging – Wrongly spelled details on the packaging

Incorrect phrasing – Wrong language used in the description and user's manual

Labels showing country of origin – Country of origin listed is where parts are not made normally.

Component asymmetry – Fake parts are made in a hurry and are asymmetrical.

2 - Certificate of Authenticity

Most of the time, a visual inspection doesn't help to differentiate a genuine Gm Oem Parts Online store from a fake. The counterfeit car parts are so close to the original that a naked eye wouldn't tell the difference.

So, the next step is to check the Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The COA will have a security code and ID on it. You can find the sticker denoting COA on the OEM part or the package.

Check the COA to determine if the dealer or the manufacturer generated it. If it is the former, then it isn't very worthy. Get the COA checked against a third party's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

3 – Consult a reliable repair shop

A trustworthy repair shop will ensure that you do not have fake parts. Friends and neighbors are the most reliable sources for finding a good repair shop. They might have availed services at the shop multiple times, so you could use their experiences to decide.

A mechanic will check your OEM part for free and let you know its genuineness.
