by Marie Catherine Online Shopping

Quinceañera marks a turning point in the life of a girl, when she enters womanhood leaving behind her childhood. This is celebrated on the fifteenth birthday of a girl. This celebration is essentially a Hispanic tradition, but today American and Hispanic cultures are merged and families are preferring to celebrate Sweet Sixteen.

For the whole Quinceañera affair, perhaps the most important aspect is choosing the celebrant's dress. Usually, a Quince's dress is white or pink in color and is a ball gown, but nowadays all pastel shades are in fashion. Quinceañera night is not only to tell that one has entered into young womanhood but a respectful and with a good taste.

The big change which can be noticed recently is the use of red quinceanera dresses, which blends trend and tradition having impressive trains giving a glamorous look. The lush fabric with beautiful designs, which are embellished with crystals or beads.

This is a celebration where customs, religion and modern trends are merged. Typically, a Quinceañera celebration begins with a religious ceremony and a reception is held either at home or in a banquet hall. This custom mainly focuses on God, friends and family, good food, music and dance. Most of the time a choreographed dance is performed by the quinceañera and her court.

It is a common practice for the celebrant to choose special friends to be present in what is called the Court of Honor. Mostly they are young siblings or close friends. The court can consist of all girls called Damas, all boys called Chambelanes, or can be a mix of girls and boys. The quinceañera usually wears a ball gown and her court has the traditional attire of gowns and tuxedos.

There are some customary gifts the celebrant should receive, they are

·         Bible or prayer book and rosary

·         Tiara

·         Cross or medal

·         Scepter

To mark this celebration, one is very careful about dress selection. The quinceanera dress is most important as everything is centered around the dress like decorations, flower color and it’s arrangements, theme, and others. Traditionally the style of the dress is limited to formal ballroom gown which is a full length, small neckline, and a big full skirt. Colors are generally white or other pastel shades are in trend nowadays.

A Dama being an important part of the quinceañera celebration, her dress also needs keen attention. Traditionally gowns are worn by Damas which compliments the dress of the quinceañera. Shops or event management companies offer rental services for Dama Dress.

The Quinceañera receives her Last Doll traditionally made of porcelain, which is passed to the preferred younger siblings.
