Raw Honey v/s Organic Honey: Which is better?
by Zill Davis Civil LawyerHoney offers several different benefits. It is a rich source
of vitamin C and B6 along with thiamin. It also contains calcium, copper and
iron. Thus, including a healthy dose of honey in your diet can help you in
reaching your micronutrient goals. Both raw and organic
honey is rich in antioxidants. Moreover, they also offer
antibacterial benefits.
However, gone are the days when grocery shopping was all
about intuition and you could be assured that irrespective of what you buy, it
will be toxin free. Today you are bombarded with labels - there’s organic
honey, raw honey, pure honey, filtered honey - the list never seems to end. And
it can be quite confusing to select the right option especially if you don’t
know the difference between these.
The difference between raw honey and Organic Honey
Having an understanding of the different types of honey
available in the market and knowing which is the best for you is important.
Especially when it comes to differentiating between raw honey and organic honey
as they are usually marketed as possessing the same properties. The follow are
the major differences:
1.
Raw
Honey
Raw honey is not only just pure but also it is not heated
beyond the point of pasteurization. Pure honey essentially refers to the honey
that does not contain any other ingredients such as corn syrup. Usually corn
syrup is added to industrial honey to reduce its costs. Thus, raw honey is
unadulterated as well. Moreover, since it is not heated intensely it contains
some naturally occurring enzymes, minerals and vitamins. Raw honey retains all
of its nutritional value.
Beekeepers that produce raw honey are also usually well
aware of the best way of looking after the bees. Hence, raw honey is also good
for the bees and the environment. If you have to make a choice between regular
honey and raw honey, it is advisable to select raw honey as it is beneficial
for you as well as the environment.
2.
Organic
Honey
Like most organically produced products, organic honey is also produced without the use of any artificial chemicals or pesticides. This means that organic honey is produced from the pollen of the flowers that bloom on organically grown plants. Bees tend to fly up to a radius of around 2 miles from the location of their hive to collect nectar.
This means that apiaries
need to ensure that the plants grown in the two mile radius are all grown
organically. Of course, it can be difficult to meet a strict standard. But if
the honey is labeled as organic you can rest assured that it is free from
chemicals of all kinds.
However, honey that is labeled organic does not guarantee
that it is minimally processed. Hence, it is advisable to look out for honey
that is labeled as both organic and raw.
Conclusion
The heating process liquefies honey but it also strips honey of its naturally occurring benefits. Hence, both raw and organic honey are naturally opaque and thick and they are cloudy yellow in color as they are not treated using intense heat.
If you are to make a choice, it is advisable to select
honey that is organic and raw rather than just raw honey. Moreover, it’d be
beneficial if you start consuming organic food products of all kind such as organic cheese,
milk, vegetables, fruits and grains. This will ensure that you aren’t consuming
toxins of any kind.
