Rapid Prototyping Techniques – Find Some Relevant Details About All Important Methods

by Kimi Nie SEO Executive

The rapid prototype technique is certainly important to be used to create a physical structure of various products by using specific software named computer-aided design. It is certainly capable of developing a solid structured model of any product rather than two-dimensional layout. These prototypes are certainly useful and quite appropriate for visual representation of the product for market campaigning and communication purposes. Besides the prototype techniques are also useful for testing and diagnostic purpose and also play a great role for tooling and rapid manufacturing.

Rapid prototype includes several basic processes to implement. The first step is involved developing a computer-aided design model of any product. The next step is transforming the CAD model design into stereo lithography format.  The resulted format is then sliced to develop a cross-sectional model. After that, the developed layer is then kept on the upper portion of another and eventually, the resulted model will then be clean.

There are latest six techniques that are wide in use nowadays for rapid prototyping and many rapid manufacturing companies are certainly involved in these techniques as well. Some of these techniques are selective like Laser Sintering, Stereolithography, Laminated Object Manufacturing, Fused Deposition Modeling, 3D Ink-Jet Printing, and Solid Ground Curing. The techniques use various prototyping apparatus.

Coming on Stereolithography, it is the first rapid prototyping techniques and uses liquid polymers. Besides, this technique is also known to be photosensitive that is certainly able to solidify when put to the ultraviolet light. The said method is considered as the benchmark of all types of PR technique. The machine was introduced in 1988 by 3D systems. As far as the major setbacks of this technique are concerned, the prototype of this technique creates prototype, which is certainly the most brittle and also prone to deformation.

Moreover, the laminated object production technique was brought into existence by Helisys. In this, materials of adhesive sheets are attached together to form a prototype. The laminated paper is the first substance to be used by the said method. Apart from that, selective laser sintering was the method that was first introduced as a thesis project by Carl Deckard. This technique was great to utilize a powdered substance like nylon, powdered metal, and elastomer. And then fused up to create a solid substance.

In addition, Solid Ground Curing was developed by Cubital and the said method is quite similar to stereolithography. This technique is able to harden the polymers with an effective utilization of ultraviolet light and certainly tend to vary in the way the laser harden the materials.
