Tió de Nadal

The Catalans on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (celebrated on 8th December), choose a log which they name as Tió de Nadal. The chosen log is decorated with a smiling face and a red hat. The log is placed under a blanket, covered until Christmas and fed. The children of the house are required to look after the log because it is commonly believed that the log is going to poo out gifts for them. And when Christmas finally arrives, children beat the log with a stick while singing the Caga Tió song. Once they are done humming the verses, children reach out for the blanket to see what their log friend has pooped out as gift. Make British Airways Reservations now and perform this tradition with your own chosen log.

Castanyada

Celebrated on Saint’s Day, Castanyada has its roots in the ancient rituals particularly performed for the dead. People feast on a meal comprising of sweet potatoes, chestnut, and some preserved fruits. It is widely believed that the meal chosen to be eaten on this day is that of the traditional funeral meals. Presently, the tradition of this festival is symbolized by an old peasant woman draped in a headscarf selling roasted chestnuts across all quarters of Barcelona. Look for some Qantas Airways Flight Deals and be a part of this tradition.

L'ou com balla

Exactly sixty days after celebrating Easter Sunday, on the day of Corpus Christi, people of Barcelona come together to celebrate L'ou com balla or the “dancing egg”. On this day, all the church fountains in Barcelona are beautifully adorned with flowers with an egg that is placed on the top of the fountain stream. With a gush of water beneath the egg forcing it to rise, it looks like the egg is dancing. Though, the roots of the tradition is yet not clear but today it is celebrated with joyous spirit.

L'home dels nassos

Narrating fascinating stories to the little ones has always been a parent’s favorite part of the day. And this tradition is no different. On December 31st, children venture out of their homes along with their parents to search for ― L'home dels nassos. Kids are told by their parents that this figurine has 365 noses as the number of days in a year. Creating a curiosity among kids to spot a figure with so many noses, the streets of Barcelona are packed with families. However, the only chance to spot him is on the last day of the year, thus, L'home dels nassos is only left with one nose. So, make Qantas Airways Reservations and enjoy this quirky and fun filled tradition.
