Quality

Quality management in Projects The discipline of quality management complements project management with a focus on customer satisfaction, prevention of defects over inspection, management responsibility, and continuous improvement. Are at the highest levels.

There has been a lot of research on the topic and a lot has been written on quality by many experts. Significant among all is by Mr. Philip B. Crosby who states “Quality is Conformance to requirements”.

Quality Management and Quality Assurance terminology standard states that Quality is the totality of features and characteristics of a product or a service that bears on its ability to satisfy stated or unspoken needs.

In simple words say that “quality is about meeting the customers’ requirements” and the deliverable being fit for use. Similarly, the product meets or exceeds customer requirements and needs one can say the product has high quality. Contrarily if it is not meeting the required conditions of a customer the product is said to be low quality.

Important to Develop a Quality Assurance Plan.

There is no achievement without setting a goal and a plan. First of the quality assurance activities is about planning the overall process for assuring the best delivery of quality. The purpose is to design a quality assurance plan framework (an efficient tool to ensure quality is delivered) and frequently monitor problems and drawbacks that may appear during handling of the project implementation process. The responsibility of Quality team is to follow needs to use such a plan to do the rest of quality ensured activities.

Some basic steps in creating a quality assurance plan framework are:

As discussed Set up a goal of project assurance (why to assure the project’s quality?)

Authorize responsibilities to members of the quality team and determine the hierarchy of project management (Person who will carry out the quality assurance activities?)

One has to Gather relevant information on the project requirements and define compliance criteria (how to deliver quality assurance?)

Recognize a set of measurements and metrics to be implemented to determine quality levels and performance (is the project performed under appropriate quality levels?)

Validate Project Quality.

Validation is a regular process of quality, a systematic review of project activities to identify whether these activities are performed in line as per organizational process and make decisions accordingly. The actual aim of carrying out this validating process is to audit and to reveal any missing or inefficient policies, procedures, processes that can reduce quality levels and increase the probability of project failure. During this quality audit sessions, the team handling or supervision of the project manager can review quality metrics eg: Budget deviations, on-time performance, Failure rates, defect found frequently) in short measuring project activities against the quality baseline.

Validating quality allows recognizing and correcting any deficiencies in project activities. As a process that results in a decrease in the cost of quality management and enhanced product acceptance by improving customer satisfaction within the carried budget. Often quality validating activities are carried out by external and independent auditors who provide expert knowledge and advice.

Quality assurance activity results in a formal confirmation document which proves necessary changes to the implementation process and serves as a base for developing corrective actions.

Evaluate Project Quality.

Evaluating quality is a set of steps to examine, investigate a certain project activities and identify what enhances the activity’s value. The purpose of project quality analysis is to review quality levels and define necessary improvements with the existing quality management framework.

The Quality Assurance Process allows examining known problems, deviations in constraints, and activities that provide a value. This includes root cause analysis, fit analysis techniques for identifying and solving problems, and techniques for developing corrective actions.

Conclusion

The process of project quality assurance is to make a product defect-free and to ensure it confirms to fulfill the requirements of customer. Quality assurance is a process-based approach, an architect a process so that the product coming out of this process is defect free. These processes goes through critical roles in the project success. Effectiveness can only be actualized completely when they are understood by the enterprise and the team who executes the job.
