Driving Instructor

In Dublin and all the other regions of Ireland, only an approved driving instructor (ADI) can run a motor training institution and provide EDT (Essential Driver Training) lessons to unskilled drivers. However, not all ADIs have the necessary qualifications needed for teaching the basics about how to navigate a car properly. If you are looking for a competent and sufficiently skilled driving instructor in Dublin, you will need to make sure that your preferred expert possesses in-depth knowledge about the following:

  • Road Safety precepts & practice
  • Rules of the road that comply with as well as reflect Road Traffic Law, along with important road signs and the meanings associated with them.
  • Different forms of driving techniques required for handling a vehicle and its controls
  • Utilisation of appropriate road procedure
  • Ideal pedagogical techniques for instructing about EDT lessons and conducting assessments
  • How to deal with students having language or learning difficulties and physical disabilities
  • Correcting the faults of students in the right manner
  • Basic mechanics pertinent to vehicles and their maintenance
  • Driver Testing Procedures & Documentation (also the Driving Test Report Form)

  • In addition to the above mentioned essentials, an approved driving instructor or ADI must also have a sound idea about how to:
  • Make rear observations without depending heavily on mirrors and simply by looking around
  • Drive in the middle of traffic
  • Reverse while close to a corner
  • Overtake and pass
  • Turn about to face in opposite direction
  • Comply with traffic signals properly
  • Use and adjust the mirrors in a vehicle as per requirements
  • Anticipate the actions of other people on the road and react suitably (hazard awareness)
  • Drive in a dual carriageway and motorway while maintaining all Rules of the Road in relation to regulation, speed, observation, position, etc.
  • Maintain speed, timing and safe distance when braking and stopping
  • Activate an engine and move smoothly on a flat road, at an angle or downhill or uphill slope
  • Reverse left or right around corners or in a straight line and also keep within the appropriate traffic lane at the same time
  • Accelerate at suitable speeds and maintain a straight course simultaneously, even at the time of gear changes
  • Adjust speeds for negotiating right or left turns at junctions

Besides all these, an approved driving instructor must, of course, have his or her name in the Register of the RSA and also the permit from the same. Don’t forget to consider all these things if you wish to learn EDT lessons under a proper trainer.
