Puppets Play Key Role At Scottish Borders Children’s Festival

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

If any of our customers are based in or set to visit the Scottish Borders this spring, we would urge them to check out the upcoming Borders Live Touring Children and Young People’s Festival. This is especially the case because of the various productions that will place puppets very much centre stage.

What awaits attendees of the festival?

The festival will begin at Bowhill Theatre, Selkirk at 3pm on 30th March, when one of Scotland’s premier puppetry companies, Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre, will be putting on a performance of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Tale, which has been described as “a beautifully created and delightfully told story of friendship”.

The following day, at 2:30pm in St Boswells Village Hall, Paper Memories will be performed by Jabuti Theatre. This production tells the story of a refugee girl from Kurdistan who has recently arrived in Scotland with her family, and draws upon a combination of puppetry, music and aerial dance.

At Caddonfoot Village Hall at 2pm on 6th April, meanwhile, Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre returns for Lost Bear. This show tells the tale of a lost bear who finds himself in a world that surrounds him with other lost things, including lost toys, lost hats, lost socks and lost umbrellas.

Another production that should be of interest to many of the purchasers of our Hand Puppets here at Puppets By Post, is Little Red at Harestanes Visitor Centre. This show by Sokobauno Puppet Theatre is scheduled for 11:30am and 2pm on 11th April, and will transform the interior of the Little Fawn Caravan into a magical forest environment that provides an atmospheric, immersive experience for audiences.

Then, on 19th April, Heart of Hawick will host Eaten by Mamoru Iriguchi, who will use a cuddly lion costume to simultaneously play the role of Lionel the Lion and Mamoru the human. The story is that Lionel, who actually dreams of becoming a vegetarian, has just swallowed meat-eater Mamoru whole, and the predator and prey end up developing a seemingly unlikely friendship...
