Accidents can happen to anyone especially at the workplace. However, these three effective ways can help prevent injuries to keep your employees safe and improve their productivity.

1. Observe good housekeeping practices. Occupational injuries are mostly caused by slips, trips, and falls. Usual causes of slips include wet surfaces, loose rugs, and occasional spills. On the other hand, trips happen when there is an obstructed view, uneven walking surfaces, trailing cables, poor lighting, and clutter in the way. Thus, housekeeping, flooring, and footwear are important factors for preventing this kind of accidents.

Mark wet areas in the workplace and clean all spills immediately. If there are falling objects and debris at work, make sure to mop or sweep them from the floor. Having a clutter-free walkway is also a must; hence, remove any obstacle from it and keep it well lit. If there are faulty switches or used light bulbs, replace them with new ones.

Another way to reduce the risk of slips, trips, and falls is to modify the flooring or the walking surface. Improve the safety of your workplace by recoating the floors, repairing worn flooring, adding metal decking, or installing mats.

Preventing accidents is actually easy and often costs little money, just like wearing the proper footwear when employees have to work in oily or wet surfaces.

2. Install safety equipment. Be committed to workplace safety by installing gas detectors. Gas leaks may occur unexpectedly and if left undetected, it can be deadly. Gas leaks could pose dangerous health risks to your employees. Keep them safe with the use of a gas leak detector.

In certain industries, gas detectors are mandatory as a standard protocol. A gas detector is used to sense toxic gasses and when the latter are detected, the device emits an auditory alarm and produces warning lights.

An advanced gas leak detection system can monitor the levels of harmful gasses in the environment and ensure workplace safety. Search for a product supplier that offers a wide range of gas detection systems and devices.

3. Wear eye protection. Eye injuries are among the most common workplace injuries that can affect the mental and physical health of your employees. An eye injury may be a scratch to the eye, chemical burn, puncture, or welding flash. This type of injury typically takes place in a hazardous workplace when the person is not wearing eye protection or wearing the wrong kind of protection. Workers in the auto repair, carpentry, contruction, electrical work, manufacturing, mining, plumbing, and welding have a high risk for eye injuries.

The first step in improving eye safety at work is to identify potential hazards.  Walk through your workplace and look for potential hazards such as concrete, dust, metal, splashes, fumes, and radiation.

Next is to provide your employees with the proper eye and face protection. Make sure that they wear the appropriate eyewear every time they are in the work site. Goggles should be worn if working with chemicals while special-purpose safety glasses or face shields are accurate when the job is near hazardous radiation.

Invest in workplace safety and the success of your company will definitely come along.
