Given below is the procedure for upholstering patio chair ( it is better try simple pieces before bigger ones ):
- Things Required
- Measuring tape
- Marking pencil
- Cushion wrap
- Fabric glue
- Sewing pins
- Fastening tape (1 roll)
- Sewing machine
- Foam padding (about 8 centimetres dense)
- Outdoor upholstery fabric
Procedure
First, the length and width of the seat must be measured properly so that the right amount of fabric can be bought for completing the work. An efficient fabric supplier must be located who can provide good quality products.
After that, a piece of foam cut as per measurements of the seat has to be purchased. It is important to cover the sides and top of the foam with some cushion wrap using glue for preventing bunch ups. The wrap would impart a round finish and also reduce wear and tear.
Now the fabric has to be laid onto a flat surface and then marked according to length and width of the seat. 5 centimetres must be added to allow seams, and another 8 centimetres for fitting around the foam. Finally, two fabric pieces with the same measurements should be cut out.
Next, the two fabric pieces will have to be placed together and pinned on 3 sides. This would form a kind of envelope with one side open through which the foam padding can be inserted. The pins must be taken out one by one, after the seams have been sewn.
A length of the fastening tape must be stitched on both faces of the remaining end, after which the foam can be stuffed into the envelope of fabric.
Finally, the fastening tape can be sealed and placed on the chair’s seat.
In order to protect the fabric from colour fading, the outdoor furniture can be wrapped into plastic throw covers.
