Printing Techniques: Which One Is Right For You?
by Digital Marketing E. Online Marketing ProfessionalPrinting Techniques: Today we want to offer you a curiosity coming directly from the world of clothing, or rather, from the world of printing on clothing. There are many works dedicated to this sector, just think of T-shirts for sports teams ( soccer, basketball, volleyball, soccer ) polo shirts and aprons for teams working in the restaurant world or simply some nice and personalized gift to do to a friend for his birthday.
Silkscreen printing
Screen printing or screen printing is an artistic printing technique for images and graphics. A silk-screen printing can be performed on any support or surface by use of a fabric (printing fabric) that allows the ink to be deposited selectively through free areas of the printing fabric. Once the stencil is drawn or transferred onto the frame (using various techniques), this is placed on the chosen support, the ink is then placed on the top of the frame and spread with a spatula on the entire frame. The ink, passing through the open spaces, is deposited on the support (paper, canvas, fabric for example). The frame is then removed and the support is dried. The frame can be reused after being cleaned.
Pro:
Economical for medium to high quantities (at least 50 pieces);
Excellent results even on small details;
Less limited print size;
Suitable for any type of fabric.
Versus:
Not very economical for small quantities (less than 50 pieces);
It is not suitable for printing photographs.
Hot stamping with heat-sealed printing and color cutting or carving only
As for small quantities, however, the most appropriate technique is hot stamping.
After graphic design and image optimization, we proceed with a high-resolution digital plotter print on a special vinyl which, in the case of the intaglio-only technique, is monochromatic and is carved directly by the cutting plotter. The thermal application occurs at the end directly on the shirt or on the selected textile support. With this technique it is possible to choose from various colors for printing including gold and silver.
Pro:
Economical for medium to small quantities
Suitable for any type of fabric color
Versus:
Not very economical for medium to large quantities
Narrow range of colors available for the heat-sealable
Printing with
transfer for light fabrics
Using a laser printer, the transfer paper can be printed directly on the fabric. The maximum print size is determined by the transfer printing (in this case a max in A3 format)
Pro:
High quality photo printing
Low costs for small runs
Versus:
Little resistance to washing
Expensive for high print runs
Sublimatic print on
clothing
Usually, sublimation printing is used to customize synthetic polyester fabrics with custom graphics. This allows you to create many applications such as banners, banners, set-ups, sets and banish, which can be used to personalize events, sales points or public places such as schools and museums.
Pro:
Excellent for short runs
High print quality
Print shine and brilliance
Versus:
Print only on polyester or on polyester / cotton mix
Printing area a3
Not suitable for large print runs
Direct digital
printing
By combining the technology of ink-jet printers with screen-printing inks suited to the type of material being used, this particularly innovative technique is obtained. The printing is carried out in full color on light fabrics and with possible printing of white on dark fabrics, or on the surface chosen for printing. The lower costs are determined by the lack of realization of the screen printing frame and, consequently, it is also convenient for the realization of small quantities of product. With direct digital printing, the costs of installation are reduced and it is also possible to make prints with photographic pressure.
Pro:
Excellent quality for very complex photos or drawings.
Very soft print, the color enters completely into the fabric.
Very economical for small runs and / or complex graphics.
Versus:
Less economical than screen printing for medium and large quantities.
Great attention to washing with temperatures above 30 °
Although this technique was not used for the creation of the Laviano Volley sweatshirts shown so far in the picture, for completeness we also want to tell you about the embroidery technique. This technique is ideal for customizing clothing in an elegant, lasting, and objectively beautiful way. The technique consists in composing a writing or drawing with very thin thread, creating a texture that will make up our personalization. There are actually two techniques for embroidery: the direct embroidery technique on the fabric or the creation, and subsequent application, of embroidered pacth (patches, badges).
The colors available are practically unlimited and any garment can be subjected to this customization.
Pro:
High quality
Resistance over time
Suitable for any type of fabric color
Versus:
Expensive for small quantities
Small to medium size recommended
Impossible to embroider nuances
