by Shradha Singh I am Digitally Active
Diabetes happens when the glucose-insulin system of your body stops functioning in a proper manner.  There are two major types of diabetes, namely Type-1 and Type-2. More than 90% of the diabetics have Type-2 diabetes.

A condition where your blood glucose level or sugar level is higher than the normal is known as Pre-diabetes. On the other hand, when this level reaches a certain level, type-2 diabetes occurs. However, this can be very well avoided, if you follow certain measures unfailingly.

So what are the preventative measures a pre-diabetic person can take to prevent Type-2 diabetes? Below-mentioned is the list of precautionary measures one must take to prevent pre-diabetes from getting graver. Have a look:

1. Say no to sedentary lifestyle

If you are pre-diabetic and living a sedentary lifestyle, meaning you seldom do any physical activity, you are increasing your risk of developing diabetes symptoms. A lot of people who do desk jobs find it difficult to change their sedentary behaviour. However, there are certain easy ways which one can follow to undo this. Some of them are:
Try not to sit continuously on your desk for an hour. Take a few minutes break.
If your job involves talking over the phone, try doing this while standing up rather than sitting.
Do not take elevators.

2. Exercise, exercise, and exercise

Yes, you heard it right. If you are pre-diabetic, you need to be very particular about your exercise regime. Research suggests that when you indulge in physical activities, your blood glucose level drops. There are tons of exercise types you can choose from, be it aerobic or strength training. The only thing you need to keep in mind while deciding upon your exercise regime is how much you enjoy a particular physical activity.

3. Quit smoking

According to a recent study, there is a strong co-relation between smoking and Type-2 diabetes. And, if you are already pre-diabetic and smoke frequently, you need to be extra careful as it can compromise your health to the levels unimaginable.

Besides the aforementioned measures, a pre-diabetic person can focus on reducing weight, eating diabetes-friendly recipes, curtailing the intake of processed foods and quitting alcohol.

Pre-diabetes can develop into Type-2 diabetes in no time. Hence, it is extremely important to keep a check on your day-to-day habits and save yourself from the perils diabetes brings along with it.
