Plasma Cutters and Their Various Application Areas

by Longevity Inc Industrial Mechanical
Plasma cutting is the most popular choice when it comes to several cutting applications as it has greater cut speed and superior cut quality. It is extensively used to cut metals of various thicknesses and have proved to be an accurate and precise cutting method.

To use plasma cutter, welding professionals requires a pre-defined skill set as the result has to precise and effective. It can be used to cut both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

How it works?

Plasma cutters are a powerful torch that uses high voltage electric current and inert gas to cut the metals. The equipment has to be properly set up in order to create an electric circuit with the metal that is being cut. When the end of the torch is touched to the metal, the circuit is created and a spark flashes through the nozzle of the plasma torch. The spark produced travels to the negative electrode present in the torch handle and meets the rapidly flowing inert gas. When the gas comes in contact with the electric current, it is heated to around 15,000 degrees Celsius and thus becomes plasma. The plasma emerges out of the tiny nozzle and falls onto the surface of the metal piece you want to cut. It can cut pretty much anything including copper, aluminum and stainless steel and the cut produced is very clean.

Main application areas of plasma cutting

Fabrication

Plasma cutters are highly used at the construction sites for cutting large metal blocks. The workers can cut the metal pieces at the working site itself instead of taking them back to the industries in order to obtain them in the desired size and shape. By making use of these cutters, required adjustment can be made easily.

Aircraft industry

Plasma cutters are used for the preparation of several metal components in the aircraft industry. They are used in both military aircraft as well as commercial aircraft industry. They are used for the cutting and welding of different metal components.

Plumbing

These cutters are also used for cutting pipes. The edges left at both ends are smooth making them easy to fix. While the ordinary torches leave distorted edges, which requires further grinding to make them smooth.

Artistic purposes

As plasma cutters are known to generate neat and clean cuts, they are widely used by artists in various industries. They can easily make intricate patterns and designs on metals. Metallic templates can also be easily crafted with these cutters which can further be used for various other purposes.

Locksmith industry

In the emergency situations, locksmiths use plasma cutters to cut locks. They are combined with computer numerically controlled equipment and can easily unlock the vehicles.

Wondering where to buy a plasma cutter? Consider buying from a reputed manufacturer and supplier like Longevity-inc. Their plasma cutter machines are powerful, portable, and reliable. Longevity plasma cutters have been put to the test against some of the bigger premium priced brands and with independent testing results have shown to be superior in every facet including plasma cutter consumables life, cutting capacity, cutting speed, and pricing.
