For all you adventure lovers, a trip to Congo are mandatory. For here is nature at its best. With its dense forests and the wildlife, it is a place for real adventure lovers and all the weak hearted should stay away from it. This place was habitated 50,000 years back. The Congo basin comprises of 6 countries, namely Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. It his home for over 10,000 animals. Congo wildlife has bongos, elephants, guerillas, antelopes and a large number of stunning birds.

The lush trees are spread over like a beautiful umbrella. The area is mainly a swamp, while also housing palms. The swamps are the largest in the world with large trees overhead and muddy, dense forests below. Reptiles like snakes and crocodiles galore. While walking though the forest, caution needs to be practiced. The animals tend to be defensive and if they feel threatened by anything, they can launch attacks.

Guerillas of many kinds are found here. The forest elephants, which are mainly found here, are unfortunately on the path to extinction. They are seen very rarely in the region, as they do not want to come out in the open. These are smaller compared to Savannah elephants and their tusks hung low. The head count is done through a unique method of dung count. Huge efforts are made to preserve this near extinct species.

Other than these, some animals found are African Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Hippopotamus and a host of other animals. Bili apes, large sized chimpanzees are commonly found in this region.  Congo wildlife is the most diverse with the largest number of animals located in this region.

A large number of population in this region depends on poaching, due to which the wild animals are at a point of extinction. So, wildlife organizations like WWF are striving continuously to conserve the animals and poaching is made illegal attracting heavy penalties if caught.

If you wish to travel to this region, you can stay at Brazzaville. The city was a French colony at some point of time and till date it has retained its French culture.
