Photography Tips for Your Next Vacation

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
Remember how back in the good old days, when you were on vacation, your parents brought film cameras with endless canisters of film to capture every moment of every vacation? And how when you got home, they would develop about a hundred (maybe thousand) negatives and stuff them all in a photo album?

As every millennial says "Do it for the 'gram!" Taking pictures for uploading to your social media accounts is crucial to the modern-day traveler. It's a great way to share your experience during your adventures and encourage other people to do the same. Not only is it a wonderful way to update your friends and family about what's going on in your life, but it's also a form of memory preservation!

You add thousands and thousands of snapshots from your travels to Facebook albums and Instagram stories. People may not think about it now, but one day you will log in to your old social media handles and look back at the crazy adventures you once had on your Jewish heritage tours.

Follow these photography tips for your next vacation:

Chase the golden hour

It's not just limited to taking a great selfie. The best way to showcase the country you're in is to take pictures during the golden hour, that's one hour after sunrise and one hour before the sunset. It's almost impossible to get a less than average shot during the golden hour because the lighting is impeccably perfect and makes everything look twice as glamorous as it already is — yourself included.

Follow the rule of thirds

You've seen this in countless photography books and online guidelines. Turn on the grid of your camera or smartphone, and position your subject on the third box. Having your subject in the middle of the shot makes it look flat and boring. Following the rule of thirds gives your pictures more depth and dimension.

Stray from tourist traps

Everyone wants a picture next to the Eiffel tower, but how many of that will you come across online? Choose to go where the locals go instead. You can ask them where the best spots are, and they'll point you to the right ones. You'll have a more authentic shot by posing in a quaint little cafe in Rome than by standing in the middle of the Colosseum. Give your photos more thought, the more original they are, the better.

Ask permission first

Jewish tours are both a pilgrimage and a vacation. So when you're in a place of worship or if you notice that people are cautious when taking pictures, it's best to ask permission first. You wouldn't exactly want a camera being shoved in front of you when you're walking down the street to buy ice cream. So pay the locals the same type of respect. Ask for their permission before you start firing away.

Food is always the best subject

There's nothing more attractive than a delicious plate of food; it's a feast for the eyes and the mouth. If there's one thing you shouldn't be shy about, it's taking pictures of your food. You may never have this type of food again, so savor it, cherish it, remember it. Who cares about the strange looks you get at a restaurant?

The self-timer feature is your best friend

Don't forget to take pictures of yourself when you're on vacation. You'll want to remember both the place and what it felt like to actually be present in it. Use the self-timer to catch your best and candid moments when no one else is around to do it for you.

All journeys with Kosher River Cruise are picturesque and perfect, so book a tour now and experience it for yourself! Don’t forget your camera!
