Perkins adds to industrial engine range with 2400 Series

by Generator D. Diesel Generator
Perkins has expanded its industrial engine range with the addition of the 2400 Series at EU Stage V. Focused on delivering power density and performance, the 12.5 litre engine will be capable of power up to 430 kW (577 hp) and 2640 Nm torque.

The Perkins® 2400 Series, which is being shown for the first time at Agritechnica 2017, will utilise advance technologies including a compact aftertreatment, non-EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) air system and the latest electronics - controlling all engine and aftertreatment systems with a single engine mounted control module - to provide high performance characteristics while lowering customers cost of ownership.

Perkins design technology and high-efficiency SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) are the key enablers for a combined DPF/SCR (Diesel Particulate Filter) and DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) aftertreatment. Designed for transparent thermal management, the aftertreatment requires no operator interaction and has no impact on machine performance. The small package size and flexible mounting options will lower the cost of installation and are ideal for the agricultural and construction sectors.

The 2400 Series is designed to meet Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final. In addition, Perkins will be certifying all existing Stage IV/Tier 4 Final products in its 9-18 litre range to meet Stage V. With DPF technologies already in place, only minimal changes will be made to the DPF core to meet the emission standards. All products in this range 1700 Series, 2200 Series, 2400 Series, 2500 Series and 2800 Series will offer dual certification for Stage V and Tier 4 Final, providing customers with robust, global engine and aftertreatment solutions.

To address the diverse requirements of a global emissions landscape, weve taken a customers approach. From Stage III/Tier 3 equivalent to Stage V/Tier 4 Final, we offer reliable, high performance engines across common core platforms, focused on reducing their cost to install and operate, said James Schnuriger, Perkins product marketing manager for 9-13 litre engines.

Perkins engine for EU Stage V machine

From 2019, EU Stage V will be phased in for off-highway diesel and mobile electric power engines across the full power range.

Through ongoing collaboration with Perkins, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will be able to meet the Stage V emissions standards while producing a new generation of machines that match end usersdemands for value, innovation and performance.

At Stage V, Perkins will offer a complete range of engines from 0.5 to 18.1 litres, delivering powers from 8.8 to 470 kW (12 to 630 hp). Our flexibility to meet individual customer requirements, ensures OEMs will obtain the value and performance they require from their engine supplier.

Proven Stage V capability

Perkinsproven Stage V technologies include common rail fuel systems, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) and diesel particulate filters (DPF).

Since Stage IIIB, machine developers and end users worldwide have taken advantage of our transparent DPF regeneration capabilities, proven across our 1200 Series platform.

Now in its second generation, we make DPF integration easier, as our Stage V engines continue to use a regeneration process that runs automatically without machine or operator interruption. This means machine duty cycles and workload are never affected and user productivity is always maintained.

With you at every stage

Through our Technical Integration Workshops (TIWs) we collaborate with OEMs on a one-to-one basis, exploring business strategies and aligning engine specifications to meet customerstailored requirements.

Our modular engine concept also gives OEMs a broad variety of options with a high degree of customisation, while driving down costs.

Full range engine provider

A global engine partner to OEMs, Perkins supports customer needs with a full portfolio of industrial engines. At Agritechnica 2017 Perkins is showcasing many of its Stage V engines including:

Perkins® Syncro 2.2 litre Our 2.2 litre has undergone a further upgrade to meet Stage V, with 10 percent more power and 29 percent more torque, compared to the previous Stage model. The engine is a perfect solution for OEMs looking for a reliable power source in the smallest possible package. It will be supplied with a DOC and DPF aftertreatment and does not require any SCR.

As with all Perkins engines, the engine will be offered with a wide range of factory configurable options to make the installation engineering task as easy as possible.

Perkins Syncro 3.6 litre - Perkins has designed a new 4 cylinder 3.6 litre engine, specifically to support the compact agricultural tractor market. The Perkins Syncro 3.6 litre, common rail engine, meets global emission standards including Stage V / U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final.

The engine offers powers up to 100 kW (134 hp) with up to 500 Nm of torque, and is compatible with most modern off-highway transmissions. It also includes a number of special features to meet the needs of agricultural tractors, where the engine forms part of the structure of the machine.

Engine features such as a 4 valve head and vertical injector offer an efficient combustion system, enabling Perkins to keep the size of the radiator pack down and help tractor manufacturers to design machines with good visibility.

The engines modular design ensures the 3.6 litre model can easily be integrated into existing and future generations of tractors and other agricultural equipment.

Perkins 1204 Perkins is introducing a new high-power variant of the Perkins 1204 range. Delivering up to 150 kW (202 hp) it provides customers with additional downsizing opportunities and will reduce the total cost of installation. The 4 cylinder models will meet Stage V / Tier 4 Final emission standards.

The compact yet powerful 4.4 litre allows OEMs to downsize without compromising on performance. With no change in aftertreatment size from the previous Stage / Tier offering and a reduced cooling package size, OEMs will be able to easily integrate the single and series turbo options into their equipment with minimum re-engineering.

Offering robust and proven aftertreatment technology solutions, OEMs will see up to a 5 percent improvement in specific fuel consumption compared to the previous Stage / Tier 1204 engines, as well as an increase in torque of 10 percent, helping to reduce the total cost of ownership.

Perkins 1700 Series - A new industrial 9.3 litre engine, the 6 cylinder is a turbocharged aftercooled unit with direct injection and a fully electronic control system designed to meet Stage V / Tier 4 Final. With a power range of 250-340 kW (335-456 hp) its the ideal choice for hard-working agricultural applications, and delivers optimal performance in the harshest working environments.

Perkins 2400 Series - Perkins has expanded its industrial engine range with the addition of the 2400 Series at Stage V / Tier 4 Final. Focused on delivering power density and performance, the 12.5 litre engine will be capable of power up to 430 kW (577 hp) and 2640 Nm torque.

The compact aftertreatment and flexible mounting options will provide high performance characteristics while lowering customers cost of ownership and installation, making it ideal for the agricultural sector.

Adding value by design

We deliver the very best customer value while ensuring our customers achieve the latest emission standards, said Matthew Nurse, product manager at Perkins. From initial concept through to tailored aftermarket solutions, OEMs can be sure of industry-leading technology and services designed for their business and applications.
