Performance Shirts Versus Cotton Shirts
by Green S. CEOWhile the first thing you notice about a shirt is the color or
pattern, the most important aspect of a dress shirt might be its material. You
might look good, but if you don’t feel good too then it’s not really a good
shirt. Thankfully, technology has allowed for the production of shirts that can
help you look your best and feel your best! Gone are the days when you have to
sweat bullets through your shirt when it's 100 degrees in the middle of the
summer. Gone are the days when you have to worry about bringing an extra
undershirt or deodorant with you to address the inevitable sweat. When it comes
to the two main dress shirt materials of cotton and performance, they both feel
and look good but performance
shirts definitely have some advantages that
you might not know about yet.
Performance Shirts
Everyone loves their athletic DriFit shirts – but did you know
that you can get all the benefits of your favorite DriFit shirt in an amazing
looking dress shirt? It’s true – the same moisture-wicking technologies that
you see in those athletic shirts actually exist in dress shirts now! Most of
the time, these shirts are made from polyester material that is lighter and
cooler than some of the other materials. Performance shirts are great because
they are highly wrinkle resistant and allow you to go the whole day without
worrying about creating wrinkles from sitting down. They can also be reasonably
stretchy and give you more room to move around in than traditional dress
shirts. When you sweat in performance shirts, instead of soaking through and
causing visible stains, the moisture evaporates from the exterior of the shirt
way faster than regular shirts. When choosing a performance fit dress shirt,
you should look for a fit that provides a decent amount of contact with the
skin but isn’t extremely tight either – that way the shirt can pull the sweat
away from your body and evaporate it.
Cotton Shirts
Classic cotton dress shirts have been popular for generations –
and for good reason! After all, they are really comfortable and breathable.
Another great thing about cotton is that it is naturally odor resistant.
However, cotton does have a tendency to wrinkle more than other materials which
can definitely cause problems if you want to maintain a sharp look throughout
the day. Cotton also has a tendency to shrink easier than other materials when
laundered – so make sure to remove these types of shirts from the dryer earlier
when they are still damp and allow them to air dry after that.
The Rundown
Overall, both cotton and performance shirts are comfortable and
breathable. Cotton is a more formal and classic choice and has been that way
for many years. Performance shirts are a newer modification to the classic
dress shirt that can help you avoid the dreaded sweat stains and stay nice and
cool and dry throughout the day. Depending on your body and your occupation,
one of these types of shirts may be better than the other. If you sweat a lot and live or work in a warmer environment (either outside or
without air conditioning) you might want to consider integrating some
performance shirts into your wardrobe. On the other hand, if you work in a
really formal workplace that has more than enough air conditioning, or if you
live in a generally cooler place, then you might want to stick with cotton
shirts. Or you could have a little bit of both in your wardrobe so that you can
rotate them out as needed and choose the best option depending on the occasion
and the weather.
