Located on the southeastern coast of India, Pondicherry is a small city, to be precise, a developing town in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. It is the capital of the territory and an old French town that preserves the essence of the colonial past, even after multiple decades of the French departure from India.

Pondicherry is a perfect place for spending a wonderful and undisturbed holiday relaxing and unwinding. If you are planning a trip to the quaint town, it is advisable to go solo, as travelling solo is the best way to relax and discover oneself. Plus, it also gives you the chance to bond with many people whom you meet during the journey. Needless to say travelling solo to Pondicherry is an adventure that simply worth.

Pondicherry is quite tranquil. The sleepy town, although bustles in the main commercial area, yet compared to the chaotic larger cities in India, life here seems to be quite slow. It is ideal to pick one of the hotels in Pondicherry that are close to the beach as a majority of them are well connected to the airport. Plus, airport pick and drop is also offered by some of the luxury hotels that make it quite convenient to reach the hotel. The French came to Pondicherry in the medieval era and colonized it to the extent that it became the largest French colony in India at one point of time. It is only recent, to be precise in 1954, that the region was included in the Union Territory of India. Today, the place reflects the influences that the French made on the culture, religion, and eating habits of the region. Especially, the White Town, which is the area where the French colonized in majority is full of French references and being there feels like you are in an actual town in France. The architecture in particular is very French, plus, you will also find some cafes here that are run by French, where steak and wine are served. Close to the White town, there is the Tamil town inhibited by the Tamils from a really long time, even before the arrival of the French. As you traverse from the White town to the Tamil town, there is a stark cultural contrast. The houses are majorly old Tamil style houses and people still follow the centuries old indigenous traditions and culture. Visiting this part of the town is simply worth as without exploring it your trip to Pondicherry is just incomplete.

You will find most of the points of interest in White town. It is ideal to cover most part of the town on foot, walking on the narrow lanes and tranquil boulevards. Streets are not that crowded and you will often see people shuttling on bicycles. While you are here, it is a great opportunity to develop some photography skills. It is true to say that every nook and corner of the place is picture-perfect. Visiting the beach is a must-do, besides it is a lure that you simply can't escape. The sea is roaring and it feels like it wants to make it presence felt. You can enjoy beautiful sunrise and sunset here; wake up very early if you want to most relish the sunrise.

Pondicherry remains ideal for a visit throughout the year. The airport is just a few minutes drive away from the city and the beach. It has scheduled flights to Bangalore and flights from IndiGo, Jet Konnect, Go Air, etc. to serve the purpose.
