U.S. patent for its linear bearing mounted roll stand received by Processing Technologies International LLC, a sheet extrusion line maker in Aurora, Ill. It is a key part of PTi’s Globaline series of extrusion systems.

The roll stand offers a high level of precision and repeatability, along with faster installation, PTI officials said.

Patent No. 8,021,140 was decided to PTi President Dana Hanson and colleagues Mitchell Gritzner and Ryan Leopold. PTi claims the patented design offers advantages over competitive roll stands where the cooling roll moves as a unit and the frame is mounted either on “V” wheels or keyed wheels with a matching track design.

It takes 80 work hours to originally install these, including requirments for track leveling and grouting. The G-Series roll stand has cooling rolls that are mounted on a linear-motion guide track. Instead of moving the entire frame, only the cooling rolls move when access to the die network is required.

The company said that Initial installation of the G-Series roll stand only takes 16 work hours.
