Panabaaka Lakshmi and Rita Menon gives away best display awards ceremony

To acknowledge the creativity and the presentation at Tex-Trends 2011, Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Textiles and Smt. Rita Menon, IAS, Secretary Ministry of Textiles today awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze trophy at the best display awards ceremony. In keeping with the diversity of India, and the diversity of Textiles and Apparel on display at Text-Trends India 2011, a cultural program was organized by Seher - one of the most highly regarded organizations in the area of performing and visual arts.

The awards have been instituted for each of the following display sections: Fabrics & Yarns, Made-Ups, Garments, Carpets, Handicrafts/ Fashion/ Jewellery/ Accessories, Handlooms and Jute. The jury comprised eminent personalities in the field -  Sunil Sethi, Ms. Jaya Jaitely,  Harmeet Bajaj, Ms. Payal Jain,  Gulshan Nanda, Ms. Usha Krishnan, Ms. Laila Tyabji,  Vijay Rajan, Ms. Bahni Jha,  Rohit Bal,  Sabyasachi Mukherjee and  Snehashish Ray among others.

Gold trophy for the best Theme Pavilion was awarded to NIFT(National Institute of Fashion Technology) whereas Silver to North Eastern Region and Bronze to Handloom Export Promotion Council. The recipients of the Gold trophy awardees are Birla Cellulose (Grasim Industries Ltd.) in Fabrics and yarn, Swami Textiles Pvt. Ltd. In Made-Ups, Cornell Overseas Pvt. Ltd. in Garments, Grover International in Carpets, Trishulin Overseas in handlooms, Kashmir Fabric Industries in Handicraft and fashion jewellery and accessories and Aarbur in Jute.

Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Textiles, Govt. of India said on the occasion, “It is such a delight to see the stalls which are as colorful and imaginative as the creations themselves. With amalgamation of such a diversity of displays from every corner of India and such a diverse buyer profile from over 159 countries, I am confident the fair will lead to lasting associations.”

Smt. Rita Menon, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India added, “I am very delighted to see the level of enthusiasm, involvement and creativity of the exhibitors to make this grand event a success. We instituted these awards in order to acknowledge the hard work and the passion of the exhibitors and are sure that this recognition by our eminent and well-known jury members will boost their morale and help them in long run.”

Earlier in the day, a debate on “India Sourcing - A Buyer’s Perspective” was organized with participation from the Country Heads of renowned international brands like GAP, Li & Fung, Target, H&M and Impulse. Stated Shri Vimal Kirti Singh, IAS, Secretary General, AEPC “It was a pleasure to have a candid debate among arguably the largest buyers of Textiles and Apparel in the world, and have a discussion on the underlying trends in global trade. It provided a view of the sourcing opportunities from India, a sector that contributes nearly 14% of total Industrial production of the country and around 5.1% to the GDP of the country.”

He also added, “We have received a very good response for Tex-Trends India 2011 and the numbers speak for itself. We had a total of 1725 buyers and 3291 buying agents in the three days. 2nd day saw the maximum registrations with 377 buyers and 1734 buying agents followed by 932 registration of buyers and 798 of buying agents on 1st day and 416 buyers and 759 buying agents on 3rd day.”

The evening concluded with a gala dinner, which provided yet another opportunity for buyers and exhibitors to interact and discuss the trends impacting the international trade in Textiles and Apparel.


Tex-Trends 2011 is an initiative of Ministry of Textiles to take the Indian Textile Exports to new heights. This event is the result of the hard work of the Lead Council Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) along with Carpet Export Promotion Council, Cotton Textile Promotion Council, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, Handlooms Export Promotion Council, Indian Silk Promotion Council, National Jute Board, Powerloom development and export promotion council, The Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council, Wool and Woolens Export Promotion Council and Wool Industry Export Promotion Council.
