Recently, I’ve been reading about fat burning diets because during the holidays I broke every weight loss tips in the book. Since the new year is all about changes, I’m also going to do the same by changing my approach to weight loss. So instead of immediately jumping on the latest diet trend bandwagon (even if its one of those diets that work), I’m going to learn more about the root cause of all the weight loss resolutions during the new year, and that is our sweet old frenemy – fat.

What was I thinking?

I think it was Madonna who once said that ‘”What was I thinking?’ is the first question a person who starts to examine themselves, asks themselves,” and of course this was way after her Material Girl days. But this only demonstrates that the answer to ‘What was I thinking?’ is the first step towards understanding. And in this case understanding your eating habits and your body.

Let’s start with how one gets fat (which for a more detailed and scientific explanation you can read this, but if you’re more the Cliff Notes kinda gal, keep reading). Think about this way, eating is going on a vacation, fat cells are our luggage and fat are the things we cram inside our luggage. Get my drift? If you’ve sat in your luggage just to get it to close, then you know what I’m talking about. And what comes next is that those excessively packed luggage gets weighed and declared ‘Excess Baggage’.

If you don’t want to pay the fine, the obvious solution is to take out some of the stuff that you crammed in inside your luggage. Which to be honest is much easier said than done, both in luggage and in what we put inside our bodies.

So how do I know which to keep and which to keep out?

A good rule of thumb is to stick with the basics, whether it’s packing your luggage or on what you eat. A lot of people consider 10 percent of carbs, 60% percent of protein and 30 percent of fiber-rich food along with lots of water (remember that a blender cannot blend without some water in it) is a good rule of thumb when eating right.

Keepers:

Good Carbs: Fruits, Vegetables, Whole Grain cereal and bread
Protein-rich Food: Milk, Eggs, Lean meat and poultry, Fish
Fiber-rich Food: Brown rice, Bran, Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, Beans

Non-keepers:

Bad Carbs: White pasta, soda, white bread, sweetened cereal
And when you’ve already got the hang of a good diet, which will not be an easy road at all considering today’s fast food ruled world, it’s a lifestyle change you’re embarking on. But if you’re up for the challenge why not up the ante a little and try a fat burning diet?

A fat burning diet? Bring it on.

That’s the attitude. Your fat burning diet starts now.

As mentioned earlier, include more fat burning foods in your daily food intake. Basically what I’m saying is, eat to lose weight. Yes, you read right. Eat to lose weight. This also includes following the Never skip breakfast rule which kick starts your metabolism during the day. Increased metabolism equals faster fat burn.
I know I said earlier that I’ll steer clear of the heavy scientific stuff, but for an explanation about how working out is integral to a fat burning diet I’m willing to go there. I’ll be the first to admit that working out is not such a fun thing, especially when you’re just starting out – sore muscles, that awkward moment when you don’t know which button to push to make the treadmill work and when you do you eventually make an embarrassment of yourself by falling off the treadmill and losing motivation before even losing fat. So this is where simple Physics formulas come in.
Work(out) = Force (How much are you willing to give?) x Distance (How far are you willing to go?)

So instead of choosing to give up, choose to constantly challenge yourself. Do cardio, lift weights, try Yoga, walk, run, jump, climb, by all means keep moving.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. No man can live on a fat burning diet alone. Complement your fat burning diet with other fat burning supplements like drinking diet tea that’s 100 percent organic or even unusual weight loss tips like eating slowly or taking three bites less of the food you’re eating.
Remember that just like in any diet, consult your doctor first before starting on a fat burning diet. Take this opportunity to ask your physician if a fat burning diet is the right diet for you, if yes, ask his expert opinion on how else you can improve your fat burning diet. If not, ask if any of the diets mentioned on a previous post (Celebrity diets that work) are.
