by Alex Forsyth Developer

Odoo 15 is available in both Enterprise and Community editions and both these editions differ from one another in many ways. Here's the detailed comparison between the two shared by a consultant of Odoo in Australia

Trusted by over 7 million global users today, Odoo stands out to be the perfect ERP solution for every industry. Packed with thousands of different customisable modules, the ERP is considered as a complete suite of business management applications that automates and streamlines every business process right from customer relationships to human resources, warehouses, inventory, invoices, sales, finances, accounting, purchase, and more.

Odoo is an open-source ERP solution that has 32,000+ in-built modules that are fully customisable and out of which 16,000+ is completely free to use and the rest 16,000+ are the paid ones. And the best thing is that Odoo is highly scalable which makes it a good ERP solution for businesses of different sizes right from startups to SMEs and enterprises. Another noteworthy point about the ERP is that it gets updated every year and comes up with new and improved features and modules to ensure more efficient and better business management. Well, the latest Odoo version is 15 that is much faster as compared to the previous version that was Odoo 14.

Here you can go through a detailed comparison between the Community and Enterprise editions of Odoo version 15.

But before digging into the comparison, let’s have a quick look at what the Odoo 15 Community and Enterprise editions are.

Odoo 15 Community edition:

Odoo Community edition is a fully open-source edition distributed under the LGPLV3 license which actually does not need any license fee. But it has limited Odoo features. However, though it allows the users to access limited features of the ERP, it can still help businesses to manage their processes and achieve their goals efficiently. The lack of endless functional support, hosting assistance, and version upgrading are some of the disadvantages of this edition of the ERP as compared to the Enterprise edition. Additionally, the Community edition does not support the mobile version or Odoo studio. Moreover, Odoo 15 Community doesn’t allow the full usage of the HRMS, Sales, eCommerce, website, and some of the other modules.

Odoo 15 Enterprise edition:

Odoo 15 Enterprise edition is the paid or licensed edition though the fee is much more affordable as compared to the other ERP software solutions available today. This edition allows complete usage of the ERP and its modules and does not have any limitations when it comes to using the features and modules of Odoo 15.

Now, let’s get into the comparison between these two Odoo 15 editions discussed by a consultant of Odoo in Australia

General features:

There are a couple of general features that are supported by the Odoo 15 Enterprise edition and not by the Community edition like upgrade to the latest ERP version with database, unlimited functional support, unlimited bug repairing, and a better hosting facility.

User Interface:

Odoo version 15 Community edition is only available on the desktops while the Enterprise edition is available on both mobile as well as desktop interfaces. In other words, Odoo 15 Enterprise edition comes with a mobile-friendly UI.

Odoo Studio:

Users can easily customise views with the Odoo Studio module in version 15 with just a couple of clicks. Also, users can quickly design reports, edit menus, create modules, and customise screens with the Enterprise edition of version 15’s Odoo Studio. Remember, this particular feature is only available in the Enterprise edition and not the Community edition.

Sales management:

Odoo version 15 has a sales management module as well as a customer portal in both its Enterprise and Community editions. The Enterprise edition users can have the access to additional services as compared to the Community edition like help desk, digital products, VoIP integration, subscription, and a few more.

Inventory management:

Most of the inventory management features supported by Odoo version 15 can be accessed by both the Community and Enterprise edition users though the Enterprise users can have the access to some extra features like shipping connectors like USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc., and support for barcode scanners.

Accounting management:

Balance sheets, profit and loss, aged payables, executive summary, tax reports, receivables, and many more dynamic reports are available in the Enterprise edition of Odoo 15. Some added features supported by the Enterprise edition are digital bills, purchase receipts, sales receipts, etc. Users of the Community edition cannot avail these features.

Manufacturing process management:

Both the Enterprise and Community editions of Odoo version 15 have MRP capabilities like bills of materials or BOM, work centres, and more with some additional features that can be availed by only the Enterprise edition users like PLM, IoT, maintenance, and quality.

Project management:

In Odoo version 15 the Enterprise edition offers additional features like the employee planning feature for resource allocation that helps to allocate the resources across different activities and projects and precisely estimate the project completion deadline. These features are not supported by the Community edition.

Apart from these, Odoo 15 Community and Enterprise editions also support the common features of the other modules like the human resource management module, POS, website builder and e-commerce, and marketing management modules, with the Enterprise edition supporting some additional features of these modules.

To conclude, Odoo is an open-source business management tool or an ERP solution that is used today by over 7 million global users of different industries and by businesses of different sizes. Odoo is available in two editions, the Community edition and the Enterprise edition to assist businesses of every size right from startups to SMEs and large-scale businesses.
