Training for a marathon is different from training for almost anything else. The 10,000 meters is something along the line, but still, it is a different beast. Even the half marathon is not quite the same. Training is not as simple as just do what you have done over again.

If you run a half marathon you have to get through 13 miles. Even if you walk it at about three miles an hour – most people walk faster than that by the way – you will be finished by lunch time. If you run at 8 miles an hour you will be finished in well less than 2 hours.

You need to have the stamina to pound through 26.2 miles. But you also need to develop the mental acuity too.

Unless doing a marathon is a part of a bigger goal, you will probably want to work with a trainer who has done the run themselves.
