Non-toxic Ways to Shield Yourself from Mosquito and Tick Bites

by Larry Chetan Business
Mosquitoes and ticks can not only spoil a beautiful day, but can also make you sick. Apart from biting, buzzing, stinging, and sucking, they can carry very serious diseases such as Lyme disease. It’s, therefore, no wonder that we are constantly looking for ways to protect ourselves from ticks and mosquitoes, especially during this time of the year when we spend a lot of time outside. Thankfully, with a little care and thought we could get rid of these insects in ways that are healthier for us and the world around us.

Anytime we use insecticides, we not only kill mosquitoes and ticks, but other insects as well. More so, it harms the animals that feed on these insects such as birds and bats. They also wash into the waterways where they can kill aquatic invertebrates that usually provide food for frogs, fish, and other stream dwellers as well. Simply put to use toxic pesticides can end up killing or harming the very things that make our gardens bloom and our flowers flourish. They can also be risky to both children and pets that we keep.

Ways to prevent ticks and mosquitoes without using chemicals

To prevent tick bites, avoid walking through leafy litter or tall grasses. If you are going to walk out of the paved pathways, wear long pants, closed shoes and long socks so that your feet are not exposed to the insects. More so, if wear light-colored clothing you’ll be able to spot a tick that may be hiding.

When you return home from the outdoors, check your skin and clothes for ticks that may be hiding in them. Also, ensure that you check their hiding places such as around the hairs and in the ears, behind the knees and under the arms. If you can shower a few hours after returning from the outdoors, you can easily wash away any unattached ticks on your body. Do not forget to examine your pets for ticks also. If you find out that there is any tick attached ensures that you remove it by using fine-tipped tweezers and then clean the bitten area with warm soapy water. This is one of the best ways to control them. You can also use some of the best tick spraying Plymouth county methods.

In the same breath, to avoid mosquitoes, make sure you cover your body as much as possible by wearing pants, long socks, and long-sleeved shirts. Try to avoid going out at night when many mosquito species tend to bite. This is perhaps one of the best mosquito control South Shore methods.
