Nokia's new Android smartphone coming soon
At the start of the year, around February 2016, there were
some reports about Nokia prepping for a major comeback in the smartphone field.
Yes, Nokia, which was once the world’s leading mobile phone company, is coming
back in the game. In order to make the comeback, it seems Nokia is also taking
a route that BlackBerry took to salvage itself… becoming a patron of Android.
Of course this was a possibility that was being speculated when the reports
first started pouring in. And what made the reports rather reliable was the
fact they came from the Indian CEO of Nokia, Rajeev Suri. Soon after rumors
became rife with whispers of Nokia coming back into the game, the company went
ahead and made an official announcement about the matter.
So what’s new? Nokia is back in the news for unofficially
peeking from under the covers. Apparently, a new Android-based Nokia device,
codenamed the Nokia D1C has surfaced a popular benchmarking website, and has already
undergone a series of tests for performance evaluation. Excited? So get those
content transfer app ready.
Many experts like SmartIO say that , If you’re interested in knowing more about what the results
of the benchmark tests were, according to Geekbench - the website in question – the ‘Nokia D1C’
has been tested a total of five times at the time of the article. According to
the results, the device performed surprisingly well. Among all the results, the
best score that the device achieved was in a single-core test was 682; its
highest score in the multi-core tests was 3,299. If you want something to
compare these numbers with, just know that the latest Android smartphone, the
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, got a score of 1.782 and 4,471 respectively. This shows
that the device is most likely a mid-range device.
Obviously we were curious and wanted to check out the
specifications of the device in question. So we found out that the device was
listed as one powered by an octa-core processor, running at 1.4GHz, a 3GB and
the model number MSM 8937. Upon further investigation, it turned out to be the
Snapdragon 430 SoC. On the graphics side, the processor’s SoC comes with an
Adreno 505 GPU.
Other information regarding the form factor and other
cosmetics remain unknown. However, rumor has it that the device might be dust
and waterproof. One can only hope for the best, considering neither Windows,
nor BlackBerry have been able to emerge as significant players in the market.
Here’s to hoping Nokia does better.
