Nisin, CAS number 1414-45-5, E number E234, used as food preservative. Nisin accepted as safe food preservative in many food products. Nisin is a polycyclic antibacterial peptide manufactured through fermentation using the bacterium Lactococcus lactis, available as Light brown to cream white powder.

General Side Effects

No significant side effects reported.

Suggested Dosage

Ingestion of Nisin in large quantity may hurt our health, please follow the guideline of using Nisin: ADI 0–2 mg/kg bw

* MTDI: maximum tolerable daily intake

Special Groups Precaution

Special groups refer to newborns, children, pregnant and any other applicable vulnerable groups.
There is no evidence that Nisin could have any negative effects on these vulnerable groups. It should be safe to use Nisin in food for newborns and pregnant. However, we still recommend consumers to consult professionals before using large quantity of Nisin for long period in food for newborns or pregnant.
