New Ways to Manage Mosquitoes in the Backyard

by Mr Peter Peter Smith
Pesticide sprays have always been the first solution that comes to mind, whenever there is a pest control problem in the backyard. Spraying works well, because it kills existing pests instantly. Also, it discourages them from coming back, especially soon after spraying is done. However, this is not always sufficient to get rid of the problem permanently. Companies are coming up with ways to create more long-lasting solutions for this problem.

  • Mosquito spraying Cape Cod companies evaluate the landscape of the backyard to determine what spraying method should be used. This is a much better option when compared to spraying indiscriminately around the entire yard. Most companies assume that this method will complete the job once and for all, removing the need to come back another time and do the spraying again.
  • On the surface, this might appear to be true. Spraying all over will kill any pesticide present in the yard. Even so, there is no guarantee that the pesticide will reach all the hidden areas. This is where most of these pests tend to hide and form breeding grounds. Looking at that specific landscape will act as a guide for the company on where they should focus their spraying.
  • Indiscriminate spraying is also very harmful to the environment. It tends to leave a lot of chemicals in the atmosphere around the house. In the short-term, this could cause allergic reactions like coughing, sneezing, and itchy skin. In the long-term, it may result in the onset of respiratory infections amongst those who live in the household.
  • When spraying specific areas, the company should always focus on existing breeding grounds and potential ones. Existing breeding grounds can easily be identified by looking for where most of the mosquitoes are coming from. Most of the spraying should be done in this area, to kill all the existing pests and discourage them from occupying the area again.

Potential breeding grounds are those areas that are attractive for mosquito breeding, due to the conditions. The most common ones for mosquitoes are those areas that are wet and dark. Instead of spraying, the yard owner is encouraged to remove these conditions by ensuring the yard does not have stagnant water. Dark areas also need to be exposed to the sunlight. Eventually, getting rid of these areas could actually eliminate the need for pesticide sprays, and make the backyard a comfortable pest-free place to spend time in.
