Image Many years ago, smartphone makers didn't have to worry about price that much – smartphones were just that new thing on the market and people were going to expect to pay a high price for them no matter what. The smartphone market is getting competitive and arguments in favor of a buy from the consumer can simply come down to more memory and a better price. To reach those goals, phone makers have to be strategic and fair to the consumer all at once, and deliver the products in the form that the consumers want them to. It's not necessarily easy.

Maybe some customers don't only want to shop cheap, but also know what they're getting into if they do so. In a way, smartphones are becoming a little bit more like personal computers to a degree – people will start looking at the different parts and specifications and judge if a phone is worth its price.

This also has to do with gaming in a way, since mobile gaming is becoming strongly implemented in people's habits. Simply look at the latest announcement concerning Pokemon Go and how that's going to affect how people choose to play that video game franchise, now on their smartphones. Their smartphone pick is going to become more important, and new hardware could make or break the performance in their game. Competitive prices are one thing, but you also want to get the power where you need it, and phone makers will need to specify for what purposes each phone was made and even some examples of games that will run well on it.

Learning about smartphones is fun, but it can also be hard depending on the knowledge and patience that you have. Could a player of a specific mobile game simply head into a store and get a smartphone designed for his or her needs at a competitive price? That might be far from the reality from now, but things could change quickly if smartphone makers take on new mantras for the next years. As one company takes a step forward and delivers more for the price to a customer, others will follow and modify their line accordingly if they feel like they need to keep up, and that might improve the offer that's in front of consumers in the long run. A competitive price is only competitive when it's straightforward and easy to understand what you're paying for. Smartphone companies will be quick to notice that their cheaper offers reflect how they choose to treat their customers. And on the flipside, there should also be enough incentive for customers to want to pay for the higher line and get the upgrade. So in the end, it's one thing to ask companies to be competitive and transparent, but there has to be steps in the progress and for the whole set of phone lines to make sense.

In conclusion, new hardware is about to become more important in the upcoming years in the mobile phone industry.
